Hi, Going backpacking with my girlfriend for approximately 5 months, we've both seen a fair bit of South East Asia but wondering if any of you have some tips on absolute must do's or great experiences you've had? we're in our 30's and can be pretty adventurous..

Cheers.

Swimming with whale sharks in Oslob in Cebu was pretty good.

Pha Nga Bay in Phuket, go on a canoe trip, saves you going to Halong Bay if you haven't been already.

Sapa, Vietnam, north of Hanoi, go on a long trek.

Motorbike tour for 3/4 days into the more central/highland areas of Vietnam.

Go for an easy 3 day trek from Kalaw, Myanmar and stay with the locals in their homestays.

You haven't mentioned Indonesia ? If you dive go to Komodo and do some diving.

Apprantly Borneo, Malaysia, is supposed to be a really good place to visit. Never been though.

get up at 4am to watch the sunrise at Angkor Wat, the sounds of khmer instruments and the whole site that slowly
unraveled in front of you was pretty impressive. infact 2-3 days for the temples is a must

Not to everyone's taste but Ko Pha Ngan and Koh Tao for beach partys and general nightlife on a small island setting

We did sunrise at Angkor Wat. I'm glad we did because it's a 'must do' and it was something ticked off the list, but I didn't think it was anything particularly special. There were tons of other people there. We did one long day around the temples and thought it was plenty.

I like to wander around towns and cities, but meandering around old temples for days on end doesn't grab my attention. I like to see the sights then just wander about.

Thailand: Wat Arun, Ayuthayya, Soi Rambuttri, longtail khlong tour, rod fai train market, Bridge on the river Kwai, a train journey, quiet bits of kph Phangan, Phang Nga Bay, Phraya Nakhon cave

Cambodia: Angkor Wat, killing fields, S21 prison, bamboo train, FCC, siem reap to Battambang boat trip, beef with lime and pepper sauce.

Vietnam: HCMC, reunification palace, Bitexco Tower, drink beer on tiny stools on the pavement, Hoi An, banh mi sandwiches, da lat crazy house, B52 lake.
