We often stop at Meersburg (Aurichs hotel), its a lovely spot right on the Bodensee, lots to do, Fredrikshafen along the lake has the Zeppelin Museum which is ace.

Incidentally BMW museum in Munich is amazing. I'd also recommend Munich for beer halls (and gardens) and on a more sobering note: dachau. Also if in Baden Baden and looking for a lovely hotel just outside of town I'd recommend hotel heilegenstein up in the hills amongst the vineyards. Beautiful.

An alternative to Baden Baden would be Traube Tonbach in the Black Forest. One of the best restaurants in Germany and the drive there is quite nice too.

Maybe worth a shot but don't know the parking situation. It looked nice when I was walking around Lindau a few years ago.
