Weekend ski trip recommendations

Looking to hit the slopes for a long w/e with Mrs Whytwo in Feb without the kids (we're taking them at Easter). We usually head to somewhere in Portes du Soleil as it's a short transfer from Geneva and a huge ski area. Looking for accommodation suggestions.
Share of a catered chalet would be great but self catering would be fine as it's only a few days. Not really keen on a hotel. Other criteria:
- Short transfer from the airport (probably Geneva as there are lots of flights into GVA)
- Reasonable choice of bars/restaurants - not looking to 'party like it's 1999', there more for the skiing/boarding, but don't want to be in the middle of nowhere.

Reach 4 the alps (www.reach4thealps.com) usually have some shared chalet and short term breaks (with transfers, some with lift passes) in the Morzine/Avoriaz/Les Gets area.
I've been pondering a cheeky trip out there as there seems to be a fair bit of good snow and cold temps right now.

Contact Jamie or Mary from Jack & Jill Holidays, they have a number of very nice chalets in the PdS and are usually able to offer flexible days/part weeks etc. Have used them a few times, really nice people and really nice properties and they are very flexible & helpful too. I'd certainly use them again.
another option i've used is fly to munich and hire a car (one year i actually used the train, but car much more convenient). flights to munich usually pretty cheap, can be in the ski welt in austria within 1.5/2hrs (or different surrounding resorts). I've been to soll a few times going this way.

I did this last year, and went to Flachau. The problem is always finding accommodation that lets you book a few days over a weekend, rather than a whole week.We stayed here - newly built hotel, reasonable rates and very good standard + convenient for the slopes:

Interesting. Will have to check this out. 70Km from Saltzburg airport is a short transfer. Went to Saalbach a few years ago and had a great week. Remember flying from Southampton or BournemouthWe stayed here - newly built hotel, reasonable rates and very good standard + convenient for the slopes:

Rather than stay in a resort, how about Innsbruck ? I think Easyjet used to have direct flights and there are plenty of hotel and restaurants choices in town. During the season there are free daily buses to various ski resorts so you can spend a day somewhere different (Stubai Glacier, Kuehtai, Axamer Lizum etc). We did a long weekend in Austria before Christmas, hired a car from Innsbruck and stayed at Mo's Apartments in Mayrhoffen.
The Combination of short transfer + early/late flights got us 2 full + 2 half days on the slopes. Enough après to make your head spin if you want it. The car gave us the flexibility to hit up different slopes In the valley.

Or pick a hotel near the rail station and you can commute to St. Anton (provided you don't stay too late at the apres party).Ended up booking Chatel. Was trying to get a place in Les Gets or Morzine but everything was full. Also tried the hotel in Austria that was recommended but that was also full. Unfortunately we're bound by the availability of childcare so are dates were extremely limited.

Good call, I loved skiing in the Chatel area, was my favourite bit when I was staying in Montriond and was exploring the ski Avoriaz area. The Swiss Wall was a "laugh" too!Will make plans well in advance next year and think we'll head to Austria

Back from Chatel last night.
It was alright I suppose, if empty pistes, no lift queues and bright conditions are your thing!
We went through Morgins, where you had a meltdown, trying to get back to Avoriaz a few years ago. It's lovely in the sunshine?
Alright Nobby! Saw your updates on Bragbook. Conditions look a bit rubbish! 
Would've rather have gone somewhere other than Chatel for our w/e break as we're there with the kids end of March but it'll be a little bit of a different trip just me and Mrs W than when we go with the kids! Can't wait. New board as well! Bring it on!

ok so just back from a long weekend to austria (ski welt- soll + St Johann) and thought i'd give a quick run down on how it went and costs for anyone thinking of the same.
easyjet flights (edinburgh- munich, carry on luggage + ski bag) £150
car hire £70
hotel 4 nights (too nice for a ski weekend with the boys- bed and breakfast) £280
lift pass (3 days alpen ski pass- covers loads of resorts)- £120
Petrol/ tolls ticket- £30
spending money (lunch, dinner, lots of drinks (it was a boys weekend)- £300
total- £950.00
on the surface that looks pretty expensive, but my week to courchevel (6days skiing) cost £1350 all in (catered chalet, flights, passes, lunch and beer money) so very comparable.
I flew out friday, skied sat/sun/mon and flew home tuesday. If I could have got better flights I could either have squeezed in a half day friday pm and half day tuesday am. and/or saved a night accommodation and spending money. also cheaper accomodation woudlve saved a bit too.
the drive from munich to the ski welt is 2hrs even with a bit of traffic. on the way back i was 1hr 45.
but being self employed the biggest saving to me was only having to take 3 days off work over a whole week and with better flight times I couldve squeezed in more skiing or gotten home a day earlier. For instance my friends that flew in from dublin got a morning flight out friday (half day skiing) and 8pm flight home monday night after skiing till 3pm.
Also having a hire car we were able to choose where to ski, we skied st Johann one day, soll the next and then kitzbuhel. we skied from 10am, hour of for lunch and were last off the slopes at 5pm every day. would def look at doing a trip like this again.
