Bored of France, don't want to go to bloody Center Parcs, preferred fortnight in the highlands vitoed.

Any recommendations for Portugal? Looking for villa, private pool, ideally walkable to a bar!

I've stayed in villas in Quinta do Lago and Vilamoura a lot over the years. Although Quinta do Lago is considered to be more upmarket, Vilamoura has much more nightlife (at the marina), and plenty of villas there are within walking distance of the marina.

If you consider Spain (I've never been to Portugal so can't help), fly to Malaga and look for a villa and pool around Casarabonela area, for exceptional value. This is within easy driving distance of Antequera, Ronda and the lakes. Stunning area and nice local bars.

About an hour west of Faro there are villages like Burgau and Salema. Nice beaches, a few bars and restaurants and plenty of accommodation to suit different budgets.

We regularly used to rent cottages within 50 yards of the beach.

Villas a bit further out but still only a stroll.

We went last year, stayed in Carvoeiro which is a lovely little resort, nice beach, not too busy, but enough bars and restaurants to keep you fed and watered. Also not far from water parks and other attractions. We booked a private villa with a pool through Trip Advisor, flew Ryan Air and had a hire car for the duration.

However towards the end of the holiday we took a drive down the coast to Sagres and went to Martinhal beach. Absolutely stunning. Wish we had found it sooner.

Stayed at Praia deLuz several times and loved it. Loads of villas all within easy walking distance of a few bars. Used to go to Sagres as it was quieter with a great beach restaurant. Burgau is also OK.
