Don't know Italy (only been to Venice) but planning a group holiday for a bunch of friends. Can someone recommend somewhere that has a nice beach but also relaxing walks and scenery (because a few of us are not into beach holidays!)? Film location credentials would be nice so I can pretend i'm on a film set and not in a group of bickering friends who will no doubt have a massive argument on Day 2 .. smile

We really enjoyed Elba - some great beaches and the Napoleon connection for a bit of history. Probably best done with a car so you can get out and explore a bit. Food as you'd expect was also fantastic

Thanks for that. We're thinking of Florence - so 3/4 nights in Elba then drive to Florence and spend 1/2 nights would be perfect.

I stopped in Lucca a few years back (location of one of the Top Gear episodes on Super Mini's). I lovely medieval town with good links to Pisa and Florence. No beaches though.

Wife and I stayed in Forte dei Marmi a couple of years ago.

Very nice place and we did the usual Florence, Sienna etc.

(Florence from the Belvedere is amazing).
