Just pricing up a trip to New York in July

Three of us, one under 2 - other than Norwegian and La Compagnie (£1500ish) absolutely everyone else is charging £2300+ !!

Is there some odd pricing thing going on? Seems crazy considering we flew to China for £1400 recently.

Although an all business flight does intrigue me. Will other travellers on La Compagnie want to kill me for taking an 18 month old? wink

I wouldn't fly business with a baby. Not even sure they would allow it and it's not fair on other people.

Flights can be fickle at times and even changing the dates a week either way can massively affect prices. Very frustrating frown

Might be worth flying from Munich.... It's around 2650 euros at the mo which is around 2.050 pounds... but that depends on how much the ticket from England to Munich is I guess....

Not fair on other people? How did you come to that conclusion?

When you purchase business seats I have never seem an exclusion that 'no babies allowed'.

As far as I am aware when you purchase a business seat you are purchasing space and service so they have just as much right being there as the next person...

I have no children myself but I don't have an issue with babies being in business class. While a crying baby may be annoying it is a fact of life and I personally will take measures to not get disturbed by a crying baby.

...I wouldn't book with a airline whose fleet was two!

We go to Florida most years and prices are bonkers this year, even out of peak season. For work I've noticed that generally flights to the US seem to have got much dearer - wasn't long ago we could almost always get an economy return for £5-600, now it's usually £1000.

LC is perhaps a slight punt but Luton is easy for us and a day delay either side wouldn't be the end of the world.
Worse case would be needing to rebook with another airline at short notice I guess.

I wouldn't fancy transiting via Europe, just for the hassle with the 18 month old, plus the risk of bags missing us somewhere along the way.

Popular time to go. I went in November and it was 1200 for 2. It's the most competitive air route in the world, so you'll find that all the major airlines charge the same price.

Possibly yes. Although it could be that the competition drives the prices down to their lowest point. What do you think would happen if they cut the number of daily flights by half?

Why not fly with Norwegian if they are much cheaper? Or for flights to other East coast cities and then transfer to NY?

Can you go earlier to avoid the school holidays? It will be a lot lot cheaper! That really is a peak period for travel to the US.

Could you not fly to New York from Manchester? Thomas Cook are showing cheapest circa £400 return economy in July, £600 premium.

Interesting view.
I can't say that I've ever been aware of any airline which prohibits passengers of a particular age in a particular cabin?? What do you base that statement on, out of interest?

We took our 2 year old son and 7 year old daughter in club class back from Calgary last year. There were a few glances but if you're prepared to pay the extra fare then I wouldnt worry.

For what it's worth my 7 year old loved it and 2 year old spent most of the flight asleep.

Happy. Days.

Wasn't there a thread on here in the last 6 months or so about how flying out and back via Dublin can massively reduce the cost?

We're planning a NY trip next year so this is all interesting/depressing.

There's no basis for my statement.
Just that many business travelers perhaps want a more peaceful environment. I would be pissed off if I paid 40% extra for a classy flight and there was a screaming child.

Some airlines have minimum ages for classes. (can't find any sources. only what people say online).

And I'd be pissed off if I had to share it with some mid 20s blokes partying.

Not all kids scream.

Go BA via Copenhagen on the way out (book separate flights) and come back on BA1 into London city (I think via Dublin IIRC), BA1 is great, the whole aircraft is business class.

This should also get you enough tier points to get to BA Silver

Interesting, so when working abroad most of the time and the company pay for business flights for the family to come out to see you (school holidays for older child) would you refuse the business seats and ask for economy instead?

i would yes, actually. especially if the kid is not used to flying and is like, under say 3, where they are going to just cry randomly.
If they are a quiet kid then I probably would fly business/first smile

Not all mid 20s party?
More kids cry/scream than mid 20s party. I can't remember the last time I was on a train and I saw a group of any age being overly loud where as I can distinctly remember being on a train with a kid and wanting to kill myself.
