There are loads of really good restaurants in Stockholm but are quite spread out and you will need to book. Also, ££££££££. Can't think of any off the top of my head as it's been a couple of years since I visited some of the better ones (was over there last week but ate cheaply). Seem to recall Djuret was rather good: http://theculturetrip.com/europe/sweden/articles/t...

Flying Elk in the old town is a nice restaurant. Ate their last week but you need to book. Haven't been recommended any other places. But we weren't there for long.

Beware the price of alcohol everywhere in Sweden. 3 g and t's in our hotel Raddisson were £80. Cheap wine was over £50 a bottle.

Old town is pretty. Its cold in the evening!

Train from airport is better than taxi. Beware tacxi's they are unregulated so prices vary.

One of the best culinary experiences I've ever had was in Stockholm. Rather bizarrely it was sushi:

Tiny place so booking is a must. Seats maybe a dozen diners max, all at the chef's counter. 2 chefs make whatever they fancy that day, 6 courses of absolutely top notch seafood of the kind you'd normally expect of the high end Michelin starred Tokyo edomae bars. On top of this we had the special menu which adds another 4 or 5 creative dishes. The waiter sold it to me on the basis that the first one was an egg cooked for 90 minutes in the sous vide. I thought anything taking that kind of effort had to be sampled!

With a couple of hitachinos and some sakes plus a generous tip the bill was close on 300 euros but worth every penny. We even declined dessert in favour of having the chefs make us another fish course. Seriously amazing place.

Much more casual but solid tasty food was found here:

Nice place to meander through Stockholm. Bloody cold when we were there though (March) and being quite open around the islands the wind can cut you through!

Echo the train from the airport, super quick and easy to use.

We enjoyed eating at Tennstopet.

We asked at our hotel for somewhere that did 'traditional Swedish food' and this was one of the two places recommended.

It looks like an old London or Edinburgh pub inside, but the food is traditional Swedish (don't bother if you fancy a burger and chips!) and was very tasty.

We didn't think it expensive either.

Sturehof on Stureplan.

Fairly traditional Swedish food, probably not the last word in quality/execution, but very nice surroundings and great for people watching.
I had a trio of herring accompanied with a trio of schnapps (or maybe it was a five-eo) and much fun ensued drunk

Riche is also a cool spot, still Stureplan.

Can you tell I like Stureplan?

Try the vasa museum and if the archipelago boats are operating, a shorter trip to vaxholm or a longer trip out to sandham

Sitting on arrivals in Arlanda Airport, about to fly home....how was it?

1) Yes, the beer is expensive but there doesn't seem to be much of a bar culture ( I wonder why!) so we didn't feel like we were missing out. I did however, take a litre bottle of Jim Beam Honey and a hip flask with me....possibly the best decision of the trip!

2) It's cold

3) The food is great although about 10% more than London prices, so £50 for gastro burger and fries with a beer for two in a trendy part of town.

4) The Vasa museum is a must, incredible place and ship.

5) Buy an SL ticket which gets you tube, bus, tram and water buses for 72 hours for a reasonable price. The boats a so clean and have complimentary coffee and wifi!!!

Thanks for your advice, it was a perfect Valentines break.
