Morning all,

It looks like I will be spending some time in Italia this autumn, specifically Cremona (4 weeks), Bergamo, Como, Pavia, Brescia and Reggio Emilia.

Although I lived in Milan for a couple of years, apart from Bergamo and Como none of the towns are familiar.

Any must-sees or route advice over the Alps? I'm currently living in Frankfurt.

Cheers all!

Via Switzerland this route might be nice:

Neufchatel
Lausanne
Vevey (lunch)
Minor detour to either Les Bains de Saillon or Ovronnaz (wonderful outdoor thermal baths, ideal after a long journey)
Martigny
over col
Aosta for dinner.. or onwards to Milan, etc

I f you get your timing right (September), this is a great wine festival:

About 100+ producers, plus very nice food for sale along the sides. You can combine it with the baths to recover the next day. smile

The Grand Prix at Monza is the same weekend... Friday - wine, Saturday, recover, Sunday - GP...

Have a look at the Gran Premio Nuvolari, 300 classic sports cars following a route like Mille Miglia. We fell over it in Siena on a sunny Sept day.
