Been thinking, my ski helmet is 5 or 6 years old, and I'm wondering if it should be replaced. Does anyone else routinely change out their helmet?
It's not had any serious bangs, but equally hasn't been treated with kid gloves especially.

The material deteriorates.
Just in the same way a baby car seat does too so if you think you can keep using it for child after child you are wrong regardless of bumps it's protection degrades.

Depends how often you use it IMHO.The material deteriorates.

If you're a one-week-a-year skier in the mountains and occasional at an indoor or dry slope, then I'd be happy with 5 or 6 years.
If you're a seasonaire and out every day, then I'd probably replace it at the end of the season. UV light is a contributing factor as well as oils/sweat/bodily secretions.
I replaced my last helmet after 2 years. That was after around 20 weeks skiing in total.

When is the next big dump expected in Europe?
As it stands - Jan/Feb.but theres a very detailed thread running over on snowheads (link below) where some smart people seem to know what they are talking about and put up the charts (colorful pictures I don't understand!). but the charts are currently showing:
Austria getting a little round the 12th/15th dec
Austria maybe into Switzerland a little around the 17th dec
the whole alps next big dump around the 21st dec
now the full weather system breakdown/ massive dump of snow on the 21st is still way off (predicting 2 weeks ahead is very finger in the air). but the charts all seem to agree that weather systems are going to breakdown and something is going to happen round about then....... how much/ where/ how good..... is all in the balance and will hopefully clarify more as the computers keep running the models and the date gets closer.

Is it worth going on a skiing holiday for just 3-4 days?
Most definitely. My lads trip is 4 days skiing each year done over a weekend, so only requires 2 days leave from work. Go hard every day and every night and 4 days is more than enough. It's not the most cost effective trip, but means I can also do a weeks skiing with the family.JQ said:
