I'd have to agree with this - properly fitting boots is pretty much the most important piece of equipment you should buy. Skis etc are fine renting, but your boots than fit properly will often be the difference between a great holiday or not. Since you also have been skiing you will have an idea on what works for you, which is a benefit.

+1 and then some. FWIW Profeet were great at evening the pressure across the sole, not so much for recognizing and accommodating my severe lack of forward flexion following a big motorbike off which ttted my right ankle. That was dealt with by George McConkey in Whistler. The difference? Skiing in pain but with smooth linked turns on red + groomed black runs, vs powering down 30-60 degree offpiste or 50+mph down groomed runs. And no pain to speak of.

Can I use your boots? Mine don't seem to give me smooth linked turns, just the comfort wink

Any recommendations for a Hotel or Catered Chalet in Tignes, family friendly and an overall nice stay? Flying into Chambery which should be fun I hear smile

I have stayed at the Hotel Curling in Val Claret and and Langley Hotel 2100 in Le Lac. Both were ok although Hotel Curling was probably better. In saying that, we are off back to Tignes at the end of January and are trying somewhere else so I guess that isn't too much of a recommendation for either.

Chambray is pot luck and if bad weather it can be chaos. Flew there this year and no issues at all.

So last trip from "last winters" season completed on Saturday. I hope October should have enough snow to actually have a decent trip! This last one was not really very pleasant for the actual skiing, although the views were great (after hiking up around 1100m).

The lads trip has been booked - 4 days to Gerlos in Austria. Anyone been there, offer any advice?

We're still trying to sort the family trip, but Morzine is looking favourite at the moment.

Just booked a week in Samoens over NY, a long weekend of guided off-piste in Bansko and 8 days in Serre over Easter. Cannot wait - got a pair of new custom all-mountain beasties to try with Tyrolia touring bindings. I am praying for snow - last year's X-mas was abysmal...

I'm just back from the summer sun holiday, so can now focus full excitement towards winter and all things snowy!! already had the holiday booked (courchevel mid January) but booked some private ski lessons for me and mrs malks. 3 x 2hr afternoon lessons (although last year the lessons ended up being from 1:30- till when we decided to stop!). using sweet snowsports in courchevel and really rated the instructors we had last year.

my gf hadn't skied since January, but I decided to take her niece to x-scape for a day out (to also drag the gf skiing just to show her she wouldn't forget how) and she picked up straight from where she was in January last year. she was surprised how she wasn't scared on the xscape slope and it didn't seem half as steep as before....... I think I may have broken her and she's now accepting of skiing!!!! absolute result!!!! although may have to dampen her expectations in the coming years after 2 trips to nice chalets in courchevel...........

So no skiing (well I'm an OK boarder and my wife is a novice skier) booked yet... but really want to go some time next year, doesn't matter when we will leave our 2 year old with the grandparents.

We usually do packages with crystal or have keen friends make all the arrangements, last time we went to La Rossier, three years ago now eek (friends with kids) and the year before that Les Arc 1950 (my favourite location so far).

We recently bulk purchased Eurotunnel tickets, so want to drive 2017 and go for a long weekend/week anyone got any best drive/ski combinations, doesn't have to be France.

We're looking at Italy this year. I'm an advanced skier and the wife doesn't ski at all but loves bimbling about and meeting for lunches etc...

Not sure where to try, I guess somewhere like Selva would be good.

Was aiming to ski at Perisher in Australia next July/August, but our trip has been postponed for a year so we've booked a week in Slovenia at Krvavec for next February half term. Top tip for anyone considering SLO: flights to Venice and Trieste are about a third of the cost of flights to Ljubljana, and it's only about a 90 min drive from those. A cheap rental car still doesn't drive the cost anywhere near the extortionate prices to Ljubljana - even though it's easyJet which goes there direct. Severe lack of competition on the route. Maybe it's the half term factor.

Of course, most PH director skiing types won't be looking at unfashionable Slovenia nor worrying about travel costs! ;-)

Went there last Feb too, it's remarkably quiet during UK half term - no ski lift queues to speak of at all.

Weekends booked in Flaine, a week with the family to be booked in La Clusaz
I've changed my username in the meantime as I no longer drive a 5potturbo....
Changed the holiday around to become a week in Flaine with the family and then weekends foreseen in La Clusaz, Flumserberg and Engelberg - business travel permitting.
