Again though it's fine for beginners but you wouldn't have to try very hard to ski every run on the map in a day.

My parents are in Val Cenis, conditions there are ok but not great apparently.
For sure but when you have young kids you cannot be far from them anyway so a smaller resort fits perfectly as you can get back to them reasonably quickly

Make sure you go to
1. amigos great food and superb live band playing very late
2. Queens its 1950's retro style and great food
3. Happy end bar inside has the live music and happy hour each day while on the side of it has happy hour too but house or more youth style music
4. lol about the music - yes they don't dub and they like Electric 6 "naked pics of your mother" or "thrift shop" (which to this day I've not seen the undunned version anywhere).

Enjoy.

There is only 1 titty bar it's tiny, and rubbish even the most randy gent wouldn't spend more than a minute inside.

I'll have a look, thanks. The lack of strip joints is surprising, I initially had the impression of it being Blackpool by the snow but I don't think it is. It's hard to judge it's nature as Bulgaria is a pretty big culture change from the UK so the norms are different. We hired a car from the airport and the drivings interesting but I'm a big fan the prolific overtaking. Generally safe with none of the horn blaring and light flashing that would accompany the same manoeuvres in the U.K. Theyre calm in Bansko town centre though and very courteous with drivers stopping time and time again to let you cross the road. Drivers in Sofia weren't so calm, it was a full on free for all! Hugely entertaining ??
I know that shop selling interesting tools - turns out it is a martial arts shop. No idea what knuckle dusters are for though. You can easily buy old de triggered AK47's and the like much more do hunting guns as hunting is common for locals.

One great place to stop for food is on the ski road about 2/3rds down before a bridge where it turns right you'll see on the left hand side skis and poles at the side of the Piste. Stop there and walk over you'll find a great place to eat dirt cheap and really good.

Another great place to eat is at the bottom Gondela you'll see an old Piste bashed stuck to the wall it's a small outdoor bar great meeting place for friends however go inside and the food is good.

If you go upstairs in Happy end there is the enterence to a great place to eat worth trying.

No, we only ate out once on an evening as we were half board and with a couple of young kids in toe at the end of the day we were happy to grab a beer then head on back to the hotel (out of town).
2x ski holidays - smile.

Currently in Morzine and it's been snowing for the last 48 hours, huge dump yesterday so really great conditions today.

Had an interesting day yesterday, it was snowing all day, this turned into a massive blizzard towards the end of the day, this then escalated into a huge thunder and lightening storm. We were at the top of the Mountain and they closed all the lifts due to the storm we had to pick our way down the mountain with our kids, including my 4 year old niece. Several pistes were closed due to lighting felled trees making them impassable. Had to clamber over and under the trees to get off the mountain. Was brilliant fun and will no doubt be an experience he kids will never forget.
Sounds pretty frightening

A friend was stuck on a lift during the lightning storm. She and her partner were terrified as the lifts were being blown all over. How come the lifts were open anyway? Must have been a sudden storm.

It's her last day today and she hasn't bothered skiing frown
A few years ago I was skiing and it was clear blue sky but a long long way off some cloud. Anyway got onto the lift a long chair lift as it happens - wind picked up a lot on the way up the cloud started to come over quickly and has gone very dark
The last third was deep in the cloud it was not good at all strong wind and zero visibility.

I hung around for a while at the top thinking it would blow over but it didn't (15-20mins) so worked my way down the mountain took forever (at the top I couldn't see much more that the ends of my skis). Relieved to get down.

Thunderbolt and lightning?
If you are up a mountain in the storm with trees fallen on the Piste I'd say that's getting towards brown trouser moment.

There are indoor ski slopes at Hemel Hempsted and Milton Keynes....daft that the only two near London are half an hour from each other but they're both busy!
I've never been to either how good are they?
How many runs/what sort of gradient do you get (guessing mild Green runs equivalent)

Hemel Hempstead (http://www.thesnowcentre.com/) if you want real snow. But have a look at Ski PLex (https://www.skiplex.co.uk/) in Reading, Basingstoke and Chiswick - which is a long revolving carpet. My kids had a couple of sessions at the Woodley one, and looks like good fun and is supposed to speed up learning.
Woodley is 4 miles away - but not sure how a revolving carpet works. Can you carve on it or is it purely for total novices Snow plough to parallel turb

Dry slopes in Southampton, Aldershot and Bournemouth as well. Depending on where you live, they are good enough to remind the legs what to do.

All runs on dry and the indoor 'snow' are very short compared to a resort though. No idea what the gradient compares to. Green/blue at most it would say given the audience as you can straight line them without issues.
Sounds good - live in Reading so appears lots of options.

Will UK ski areas teach 2yo/3yo to ski/board or is it more above 5?
Our oldest has skied quite a bit on real snow but our middle one 2.5yrs really wants to try it and I'm convinced he will be a boarder who straight lines runs I'd need new pants on.

I've specifically avoided France because it's got so utterly eye-wateringly expensive. Never been to Italy in my life before though.

Welshbeef has a fixation with how much holidays everyone gets. Numerous times in this thread he's been flabbergasted that some people may have 3 ski holidays per year and always questions it. He'd have a coronary if he knew how many holidays a year I take.
Come on then you tease spill. (Not relevant if retired).

Anyone heading out to 3V This week might want to hope for some fresh snow. Was drizzling when we left Courchevel this morning and it was already a bit slushy and bare low down. VT was really busy yesterday as everyone seemed to be heading higher. Heading home looking more tanned than I have been after a week in Greece in summer!
I did the same week as you (Sunday-Sunday though), stayed in Meribel Mottaret. Wow we had a week of Caribbean sun - it was ridiculous! We spent most the week up high in Val T and most of the afternoons at resort drinking and eating as the snow was terrible to ski into resort late on...

Overall a great week though, skii'd 125miles and topped out at about 58mph...
125miles just doing mornings - you must be a very experianced and fit skier that's a very long way &58mph! Keepers
