Christmas & New Year, 2 weeks skiing = 6 days AL
Jan, Lads weekend skiing, fly out Friday evening & back Monday evening (2.5 days skiing)= 1 day AL
Feb, half term skiing (dad & kids only) = 5 days AL
March, Lads weekend skiing, fly out Friday evening & back Monday evening (2.5 days skiing)= 1 day AL
April, 9 Days Skiing = 4 days AL due to Easter weekend.
Summer, kids spent 5 weeks in Alps. whole family does week 1. I fly home for weeks 2 & 3 & wives friends fly out. Have swap over weekend together then wife flies home & I stay for weeks 4 & 5. = 14 days AL.
October. Standard school week away (Mum & kids only) = 0 days AL
there you go, 31 days AL but in reality it is less as I usually log in from over there and do a day here & there, therefore using less days AL.
What they lack in lifts they make up for in old military helicopters https://vimeo.com/153218996

Ah, very cool. I got to do that once in Gudauri (Georgia) back in Soviet times.Just back from a great 5 day break in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Virtually no snow off the runs at resort level, but those Germans are great at making a lot of a little and even in positive double figures slush was only really a problem at the lowest levels late in the day.
We went up the Zugspitze one day and the snow up there was thick, fresh and sticky, actually quite hard work to ski on, but we even managed a bit of off piste.
Overall, it was a great few days in a year that threatened to be my first without a skiing in holiday in well over 30! It was also great to revisit Garmisch, an old haunt of mine, but somewhere I'd not been in over 20 years.
If you fancy a visit, I heartily recommend the Dorint hotel and the La Toscana Italian restaurant in town.

16 degrees and bright sunshine here in Courchevel. Managed to pull my calf yesterday so having a day off skiing today while Mrs R has a morning on her own with an instructor, which I guess is going to be more painful on my wallet than anything my calf can give.
First time I have ever loitered around a hotel during the day on a skiing holiday as we are usually out from 9-5 and I am amazed that there are so many folk who maybe ski for an hour, if that, then stop to come back and have a coffee and read a book. Any eye opener.

Nice, have they had much snow over the weekend? We left the three valleys on saturday and it was starting to get a bit icey, and slushy right at the bottom.First time I have ever loitered around a hotel during the day on a skiing holiday as we are usually out from 9-5 and I am amazed that there are so many folk who maybe ski for an hour, if that, then stop to come back and have a coffee and read a book. On Friday we went from VT all the way as far as we could left on the map down bel air. Long day, did 31 miles! Are you going to try go all the way to the right of the map?

I dont get that either. When we go on a ski holiday we go there to ski, not sit around on our arse when we have paid for the pass, equipment, etc.marcusgrant said:

The last dump of snow was last week but it really is almost tropical at the moment. Got a bus down to 1650 and sat outside having a pizza in 24 degree sunshine. I think my calf is going to limit me for the rest of this week so no long distance stuff but I have had a couple of weeks in VT and and covered the map. It really is a fabulous ski area

First lift to last run, moring drink for ten mins, lunch in the hill then an afternoon drink , usually take last run up as far as you can go so you can get back. Legs on fire at the end, fall into apres at the bottom absolutely hanging, surely the only way to do it?N.B
Powder days means eating & hydrating go out of the window!

Thats similar to what we do. Quick stop mid morning/afternoon for a drink and lunch is not a drawn out leisurely affair either. As much as Welshbeef likes to promote Bankso its simply too small for us. We are off to St Anton a week on Saturday and if the Flexenbahn is open we are going to give the Run Of Fame a go as its a 65km total ski run.

Very warm in Alpe D'Huez.
It's a bit like a British rail cup of tea.
Solid ice until about 11am, then slush from 11:07.
Getting some miles in, but there's no off piste at all, and low level is mashed before lunch.
If you're coming out over the next 3 weeks or so, pray for a cold front and some snow.

Now that's open I'd like to go back to St Anton - did a 60km PDS loop one day, absolutely superb!! (bit knackered that evening though, I'm not as young as my ambition thinks I am!)
At Soll last year we did 305km in 6 days with a 50km/day avg so the new St Anton loop should be doable mid week. We were last in St Anton in 2011 and it was so cold you could see the ice crystals in the air which I had not seen before. Looks to be a lot warmer this year with fresh snow on its way this week

I can understand pacing things if it's bad conditions and you know it will be a lot better later on in the time there. Better to save the legs a bit for the best conditions. But at the same time it's worth getting as much slope time as possible.
