I am up there in about 3 weeks for the weekend. I've only been once before and it seemed nice but what's there to do there that we shouldn't miss?

Hey be nice, I'm a Leeds man! frown

Where abouts in the city are you staying? City centre? In the city itself you've got the Royal Armouries and City Museum. Do you like puzzles? Look for Tick Tock Unlock, you need to book in advance though. Other than those there's not a great deal of tourist attractions in the city, just shops, bars and restaurants. York's only a 20 min train ride away.

Temple Newsam is a nice place to go; Canal Gardens near Roundhay is brilliant - a mini Eden Project; the covered market iss quite something; further afield, you have Ilkley and Otley, Harrogate and York.

I don't recognise Leeds these days. I remember it with the back to backs, the old terraces, the city centre full of Victorian buildings and everything soot black. It wasn't pretty but it were grand.

What kind of thing do you like doing? There are a fair few local options but there is little point suggesting a day looking at something specific (like the various museums) if you have no interest in these at all.

Do you need to stay in the immediate Leeds area or can you stray further?

Solo visit or with a partner / family / friends?

Do your dates coincide with any of the Harewood Hillclimb days? (http://www.harewoodhill.com)

I'm in Leeds and could happily spend the weekend just eating and drinking if the situation allowed, it's all down to what you want out of the visit.

In Leeds it's called the caaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Take a drive up to Harrogate and visit Betty's tea rooms.... Right in the Center. Then if you have time visit York for the day. You could check out the flying Scotsman or visit York Minster.... They also have a cracking designer outlet Center.

Imo much nicer than Leeds.....

If you like football I'd strongly recommend giving any matches at Elland Road a miss. We continue to be an utterly woeful outfit both on and off the pitch rage

Food and drink wise I would recommend a glass of fizz in Epernay and cocktails in Angelica (if you can suffer the planks that tend to head there). Skylounge is nice at night to get a view over both sides but the bar seems slow when it comes to cocktails.

Food wise there are the usual chains of which Goucho and San Carlo are probably the better end and avoid the "celeb" chef chains like Raymond Blancs and Jamies - as with most cities.

Kendells and Shears Yard worth a visit for food too.

Shopping is hardly an activity but the Victoria Quarter is a pleasant enough place to do it in, you can access it through Harvey Nics and the bar on the top floor in there is pleasant enough for a swift glass of fizz too.

Activity wise there is the sculpture park as has been said, Temple Newsam, Harewood House and the usual English Heritage places. Not sure if they still do the open top bus tour from the Armouries but could have a look at that. There is certainly the water taxi from the Armouries that runs down to the base of where the Skylounge is so you could visit the armouries and then head for a drink...

My main hobby is drinking so apologies for the general fusion of drink with everything proposed..

I felt sous le nez looked a bit tired last time I was there to be honest. A step beyond "rustic charm"...

Glasses of fizz and poncey cocktails! Fine for the ladies, but what about real ale or craft beer pubs for the men? biggrinwink
