Just read this:

http://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/sas-to-protec...

For those that don't want to click on the link for time its about the British Army having a Company of SAS troops stationed in the Med.
Are people bothered or concerned that is seems Spain and South of France are the biggest target (from North African militants)? or are Pheaders generally either staying away or just getting on with it?

I have just booked my holiday to Turkey for ref.

We're holidaying in this country I wouldn't be at all surprised if something did happen on a holiday beach the cowards.

I don't see what the jurisdiction of the SAS would be in the event of an attack, additionally they can't be in all places at once so it seems like a bit of a waste of money unless they have specific intel and surely if intel is there a warning would be issued.

I'm pretty sure Them aren't in town to "protect the beaches"
If the story said "Them pre-positioned in Cyprus to go slotting ISIS leaders around the Middle East" then I might buy it.

We're holidaying in the UK this year as well. Did it in 2009 and the last time prior to that was 2001. Looking forward to it.

Agree the Mediterranean is a big coastline. They will have to have pretty fast entry points in order to reach the destination in time. Tunisia was a lone gunman with no Intel, that's very difficult to police.

I guess the old days of playing with toy guns on the beach with your kids something of the past!

It's just the usual meeja nonsense of making Joe X Factor feel better by thinking there's an entire Army of Lewis Collins lookalikeys, one for every man, woman and child and they can pounce at will anywhere in the world, when ever they like, to do whatever they want, using a fleet of showroom fresh Range Rovers, plain white Transit vans, Chinooks, or carbon fibre speed boats.
The press think nothing stirs up the emotion of "Don't fking fk with us you fking fkers" like the letters S, A and S.
Someone needs to remind editors that this was almost forty years ago now and we're very unlikely to ever see anything like it again:

I suppose you forgot to mention we could not storm the embassy now as we would need and EU warrant and it would breach human rights?

You jest, but yes.
The world has moved on a lot since Princes Gate and Gibraltar. Slotting nasty people on the streets on the simple basis that they're, well, nasty doesn't go down well anymore, sadly.

Here is the geographic chart.

http://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world/how-safe-is-yo...

Interesting Portugal OK, Italy not bad classed as "general risk" and Turkey beach resorts "general" but Government buildings and personnel "high".

Didn't realise that Spain was so high. Another sad addition.

I was in Spain last year, near to Torremolinos. The place was already on high alert after the Tunisia attacks. Armed police were everywhere with a Police helicopter constantly buzzing the full length of the local beach line. I imagine it will be similar this year.

Stayed here a few yrs ago. The place had a local military base. Twice a day, armed solderers on exercise, would paddle rubber dingies around the headland, take and secure the beach head.

A pleasant diversion from lazing on the beach.

Following on from the web link listed above regarding the countries considered to be at less risk of attack, we have noticed a considerable increase in rentals over the past 2 years for our villa in Portugal. We have also had similar feedback from other owners and Villa rental agents

Well it hasn't had any effect on Spain, despite trying to book an August villa, in March, most were already booked and I was lucky, in the end, to find one on a more obscure website. in years gone by, I would have had plenty of choice.

I can well believe that your villa is booked up in Portugal.
Ours -Villa Yar in Kalkan is very quiet this year. We have had been 100% full for last few years but only a couple of bookings this year. The only solution is to go ourselves, every cloud has a silver lining!
