I'm just about at my wits end with Jet 2.

So I have booked some flights to come home from Cyprus to visit family in August. Unfortunately they no longer work due to work commitments so I'm looking to change them.

So my original flights cost £709 excluding baggage and the new dates cost £639. I called Jet 2 expecting to pay £210 to change the dates for the three of us. I even thought that they might use the difference between the old and new costs to fund the change, leaving me to pay around £140 for the change.

£359 to change???

How do they come to that price? At first the girl tried to tell me that was the difference between the flight costs but when pointed out that the newer ones are cheaper than the old she told me that she didn't know why this was the price, it just was? She even tried to tell me it may be down to fuel costs? Eh I work in aviation pal and that's not how it works.

Anyone else experienced this?

If you work in aviation then you'll know exactly why the number is what it is. Doesn't take a rocket scientist.

Put simply......because they can.

What did the change cancellation charges say when you booked the original?

Charges to swap flights were £35 pp per leg so £210 in total for the three of us.

I appreciate they can charge what they like but surely they don't just pluck numbers out thin air? The girl on the phone wasn't able to explain the break down of the charges.

Seriously.... you would be surprised. Anyone trying to work out the logic of airfares or price comparisons will go insane.

It'll cost you £639 to re-book from scratch so they'll charge you a good percentage of that price so it hurts. You can claim the taxes back of the leg(s) you don't use.

I'm quite surprised you can make such changes at all - I just assume once booked, then that's it.

If you need to do it then I'd suggest taking screen shots of the relevant prices before it goes up, go ahead and pay what they ask, then write and ask them to refund the difference per their T's & C's.

They'll probably ignore you. If you're dealing with them in the UK and have a UK address yourself, issue a MoneyClaimOnline claim.
