Going over to Bruges early on Sunday morning. Plan is to stay at the Hotel Navarra overnight then off to Carnewal for an exhaust system mid morning monday then back to the UK Monday evening.

Where is best to sample the local delicacies, ambience and food on Sunday, lunch and dinner? Breakfast on the Monday morning?

Wife and I are really looking forward to the mini mini break.

If you like fish, this is one of my favourites, not sure of Sunday opening times though: http://www.dengoudenkarpel.be/index.asp?taal=en

Go on the Half Moon Brewery tour:

Visit the Chocolate Museum:

and take one of the horse drawn carriage tours - that should fill part of your day.

We just turned up on the day and as a beer lover I can also recomend. Sample the Straffe Hendrick quadrouple if you like a strong tasty beer. There's also a place called cafe rose. They have a menu with about 500 beers on it if that's your thing. It's certainy mine biggrin

Might be nice to have a wander up the belfry (it was closed for repairs when I was there.)

The brewery tour is good, we booked in advance, but people turned up before the tour started and managed to join it ok, although that was in February, so a quieter time of the year. They do decent food there, it's worth doing a late morning tour and staying there for lunch.

The boat ride is interesting.
Hanging around the square drinking coffee and people watching is nice for an hour.

A word of warning, one of our credit cards was cloned at a pizza restaurant in the square. I can't remember which one (it happened in 2008). Fortunately it was spotted by the CC company who locked the account and were in touch very quickly; not something I would have expected in Bruges though.

Not nice, but I suppose it can happen anywhere these days, which is unfortunate.

So, on the Monday, after Carnewal at Maarkedal, say leaving at 3pm, oit's back to Eurotunnel at Calais for 7.30pm. Looking at the map, logical route is via Ypres.

Any suggestions for for interesting stuff at Ypres or early food prior to tunnel?

In Bruges now,
Attempted to keep a beer diary.
Last all of 2 pubs before being unable to take photos and write!
Apparently 12% beer turns me loopy.

2 stand out bars are
Beertje
Du garre

Ok, they are just the first 2 and the only 2 I remember!

Very pretty city, really relaxing just wandering the cobbled streets.

Going to have a boat trip this morning, climb the belfry then just more meandering the streets.

We are staying in Martins Hotel, perfect location and car parking available.
