Best company to fly to Australia with?
Discussion
Which class will you be flying? I always choose Emirates when I go East and I'm fortunate that my employer pays for business on long haul (which occasionally gets upgraded). Emirates business is quite nice with the bar upstairs. Emirates First has the bar + a shower + private cabins.
Whoever you fly with, for that distance, you really want to try to stretch to Premium Economy at the absolute minimum.
Qantas are pretty good. However, their PE seats always fell as if you sliding off the front, though. BA have more comfortable seats that Qantas but worse food and IFE. Air New Zealand always rank well. I did a few legs around Asia on Singapore Air last week and they weren't too bad.
If you are transiting through Changi (and don't have lounge access), take a spare T Shirt etc and grab a shower there (there are a few places where you can get a bite to eat and a shower for $10 - $15.

I've never had to look, but aren't one-way tickets often more expensive than buying a return? What would happen in you purchased a return, but didn't use the second sector?
From looking at various fora, I think there are some good deals if you travel from Dublin etc and so avoid UK duties. I'd imagine somebody more knowledgeable will be along shortly with better info.

If money is tight then go for economy it's 24 hours of being uncomfortable but will save you probably £600 each on PE if not more, and a day after you've arrived how comfortable or not you've been on the plane will be a memory. I recommend Singapore airlines.
Correct. You'll feel like a lukewarm corpse whether you fly economy or PE. I've done it once with Emirates and once with Qatar. Both were pleasant enough experiences. Emirates were professional and efficient from check in to landing, the food was good and the entertainment system the best I've ever used. Large HD screens, and even on board wifi (which wasn't cracking, admittedly) I think nowadays most of the larger more experienced long haul companies provide a pretty good standard service but I'd recommend Emirates on my experiences.
Edit: They have their own terminal at Dubai and transition is dead easy and fast, huge and modern too.
Double edit: I almost died after paying £26 for two beers and a shandy mind. But I'm from Yorkshire.
