thanks all, well i booked Saffron for Friday Brunch its pretty convenient for the Sofitel, i've booked Afternoon Tea at the Burj al Arab on the Sunday and drinks at At.mosphere in the evening too. just waiting for the tickets to become available for "at the top" on the Saturday.

i was planning to use taxis to travel about, no intention of renting a car.

can anyone offer advice to my missus on what you can wear out and about, the advice seems massively conflicting! the dress code at At.mosphere for women says "Elegant feminine attire" err... what the heck does that mean? most people are saying other than the malls the dress code is pretty relaxed?
When you get a taxi, make sure it is a Dubai taxi which is white or cream. They have regulated rates so you know what you are getting and the fares are very cheap. Do not use a black taxi as the cost is astronomical and don't be fooled by the starting price being similar as the meter will rocket up.

I speak from recent experience of mistakenly being ushered into a black taxi and it costing over 3 times the fare than a Dubai one for the same journey. Rookie error!

The Burj is something else if you get the opportunity to visit , we took a 2 bed suite on the 20th floor, we took our middle son for his 21st, the suite was circa 350 sq metres over two floors, the whole experience is spectacular, the highlight for young Harry was our next door neighbour, no less than the legend that is Roberto Carlos and his family, a really great man with time to talk to us, time for photos etc. We had three days then then went off down to Abu Dhabi to the Yas Marina which included a tour of the F1 circuit. As above get a Dubai Taxi, if the other buggers think you're staying anywhere high end the fares double ! Dress code for Mrs is respectable without going to the lengths of embalming and a crash helmet .

Dress code is fairly relaxed re covering up - its more just not dressing to look too cheap in a similar fashion to a nice restaurant/bar in the UK not wanting an Essex slapper look in their establishment. Ironic really as most of the women I see in Atmosphere are usually paid per hour anyway.

thanks the advice on what to wear seems to differ quite a bit, depending on what you read

You can probably get by without but I usually take a little bit for taxis, coffees, water taxi etc. Try to take small denomination notes if you can get them.
