Well the Venice honkymoon it looking like a fail http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a....

The flights awkward for us, very early or late night. The ones that would work for us are way out of our budget. We could probably afford normally but not after paying for a wedding.

So we are looking for ideas, we are completely lost. We have been told by friends to look into Greek islands but we know nothing about them?

We like the south of france, monaco (when its quiet, shame about the cruse ships these days) love Antibes, Beaulieu, Villefranche. Also Honfleur, Chantilly. We also like to be independent, go and people watch in a grubby little restaurant where the locals go.

We don't like the all inclusive type of thing, or tours, or cruses, we are the sort of people that like to blend in with the locals.

Any ideas?

Last night we had the thought of just not bothering.

Honkymoon? I would forgive one, but two instances just sounds tw4ttish.

If budget < expectations, then alter one or t'other. If you are overspending on table decorations and sugared almonds, you have a very slim chance of working on bridezilla so you get Venice, or go somewhere that you like, and just ditch pre-planned stuff, drive around, visit little local cafes and generally make like rabbits.

Got any Avios points - or Tesco Clubcard points that can be converted to Avios? You may be able to pick up cheap flights to Venice that way. Or fly to Milan/Verona, it's still easy to get to Venice from there.

Avios means flying BA and as regards UK to Venice BA only fly from London City. Used it last month and only two days a week. Disaster getting to/from LCY, took two hours each way from mid Surrey. And then £25 per hour( £7.50 for the first 10 minutes)to park. I don't plan to use LCY again.

You can use Avios for lots of airlines, not just BA. I flew with Flybe less than two weeks ago using Avios.

I've just booked a trip to Venice in October...
Flights were under £200 RET total for 2 people (Mid Oct).
I booked accommodation with 'B&B You & Me' - which seems to get rave reviews on Tripadvisor. Circa £250 for 3 nights.
Flights are a bit of a PITA at 8.40am from Gatwick & us living in Devon, however, i usually work until 2-3am on a Friday night so being up at that time to drive to Gatwick isn't much of an issue for me!

Yes, Gareth, you are right of course. What I really meant to say is that I particularly wanted to fly BA for that trip which meant using LCY unfortunately.

When we looked last year for a long weekend flights to Geneva and Milan were cheapest, so we went to the Italian lakes and had a fantastic time.

Maybe that might work for the OP? I think his original plan was Venice then Lakes, reversing the trip and flying to Milan, then Lakes, then Venice and home 'may' offer flights at the right price. I've managed to pick up very cheap flights to/from Milan in the past.

You can easily get Barbados for 10 nights at that time of year for less than £750 each B&B.

Absolutely. Wife and I do it every year. You won't get a gold tap hotel next door to Simon cowbell (apologies that is what prescriptive text gives me so I thought I'd leave it in).

We will be there again this year using Travelbag to sort out flying Virgin and staying at the coconut court beach hotel. Reads up reviews. Antonios happy hour banks beers are a sight to behold.

Suits us.

Kermit,

What's wrong from using a car when I live in west Surrey? I didn't drive but the cab driver did, hence I know the parking charges when he picked us up for the return journey. There's no pick up spot at LCY hence the need to park for pick ups.
