We'll be returning from Avignon at the beginning of July (via car) and have left a couple of days for a lazy saunter back to Dieppe. All I know at the moment, is that we'll definitely be coming via the Millau bidge.

Got any ideas for places to stop/see/avoid somewhere in the Clermont Ferrand/Limoges/Poitiers/Bourges/Tours area?

TIA.

Vichy can be a pleasant stopover point.

Drive down to millau , look at the bridge from there then drive back up the other side. , driving across the bridge itself is a non event , plus the road down there and up is good fun .

I'll second this. Having done both, the bridge looks amazing from underneath and is just another road bridge when crossing it.

Ditto - we camped in Millau by the river with great views underneath the bridge.

How about the Dordogne? Rocamadour, although a little touristy, is nevertheless spectacular. Nice restaurants.
The river itself is crystal clear. Great for swimming in (but fast current) or there's many canoe hire places. They take you upstream so that you can paddle back with the current.

If you are interested in the Second World War and its history, Oradour Sur Glane near Limoges is sobering and incredibly moving....

Thanks all. Point taken on Millau smile

I'll get googling on those other suggestions, although the gite suggested above is only available for a full week at this time of year.

I have stayed here a couple of times;

A real experience...faded grandeur, day visitors go home then it is a G&T with the Count and Countess before walking to the simple restaurant in the grounds.
