Getting to Spain with a Dog
Discussion
Hi all,
Just wondered if anyone has done this and how they went about it?
My missus doesn't like the idea of flying as she doesnt want to leave him in the hold.
i don't fancy driving 22 hours to get there and the ferry takes a day and half.
Has anyone found a quicker or easier way of doing this? i'm hoping there is a ferry that can get there a lot quicker than the ones I've found.
Cheers
Daryl

I don;t quite understand what you are asking.
You don't want the dog to go to Spain in a plane
You don't want to drive the dog to Spain
I'm not aware of a third method - apart from a sea voyage around the Bay of Biscay and through the Straits of Gibraltar. During which time the pooch will have to be in an on-board kennel

I drove my parents dog ( and car) to Mojacar when then emigrated there a few years back, about 1500 miles all in taking just under 22 hours.
Didn't find it a chore, stopped often and rather than doing it in one hit, did it in two days.
There are lots of good places to stop on the way for the dog to have a break.
Enjoyed the drive
Passport control didn't even blink when a big singing spaniel stuck his nose through the window at the chunnel. Euro customs didn't even stop us.
I didn't even do look for a hotel before hand, just stopped at a nice looking one after I'd had enough of driving in the evneing, and they were more than happy to let the dog bed down in the room too.
Take the mrs and turn it into part of the trip !
I didn't bring the dog back though, so I think you'll need to do something extra for the pet passport scheme on return ...
