Mrs L and I are possibly going to be in HK for a few nights at the end of September. Can anyone recommend a lux beach hotel/resort within striking distance of HK for 3-4 extra nights before we return to Scottish drizzle and gloom?

Bali etc seems to take us a bit too far away for the return trip....

Philippines somewhere is probably a good bet. Fly direct to Cebu and skip Manila.

Dubai. on the way home?

Most of the nice resorts in SE Asia will involve having to go through Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok etc on the return.

Dubai is the obvious one, using Emirates via Glasgow. Unfortunately we didn't really take to it a few years ago, hoping for somewhere a bit more secluded perhaps. An agent suggested a hotel in Oman which might be a possibility - Zighy Bay?

Philippines is on our radar Targarama.

Is the return flight already booked from HK ?

If not, heading West from HK opens up Thailand, Malaysia & Singapore.

For beach type, take a look at Langkawi (not far from KL) or Bintan (boat ride from Singapore)

For Thailand we stayed at Tongsai Bay (Koh Samui) many years ago and it was excellent....still gets good write ups on trip advisor.

Nothing booked yet, so flights not an issue. Will hit Trip Advisor for those - many thanks.

Oman is great, I used to have a house there. Muscat has some top hotels and is nothing like Dubai. Shangrila, Chedi and others. Try it.

Not sure about direct flights from HK though.

Koh Samui is excellent. We were at the sala samui in March.

I know what el stovey means about Dubai. Daughter lives there. It's soulless.
