Im on a flight tomorrow to go and see a mate in France, he has asked me to take over some baking powder. I presume this will be fine to take on as hand luggage?

And yes.. it is baking powder, not cocaine.

Thanks

Good luck!

Legally it is fine, might cause hassle should it be discovered.

Sealed, in original packaging, in hold baggage, read signs saying whatever ought to be declared and so on, don't make any drug or bomb jokes while you're anywhere near the airport.

Should actually be fine, I think.

But isn't baking power just bicarb? I KNOW you can buy sodium bicarbonate in France easily…

Is your friend fond of practical jokes. Would he, for instance, phone an anonymous tip to the Gendarmes saying somebody on flight ACBD fitting your description is a drug mule.

He's taking the piss.
Widely available in France, sold as "levure chimique"; literally "chemical raising agent". Stop off at l'hypermarche on the way to his and pick some up.

Haha, sounds dodgy as fk. Wouldn't entertain it myself. When I'm transiting between South American countries I remove anything faintly powdery, it's not a good look being rubber gloved wink

Well it's baking here in Provence. The "goods" made it safe and sound

My sister flew to Nairobi with a block of marzipan and a bag of horseshoe nails (visiting horsey relatives at Christmas) many years ago and nobody batted an eyelid, I can't imagine getting away with that these days biggrin

Ignore all this advice. People are winding you up. The only way to safely transport baking powder on a plane is to fill several condoms and swallow them.

And sellotape them to the inside of your underpants. They never find it.

A colleague shipped 23kg of baby milk powder in his luggage a couple of months back. That was a fun interrogation at Chinese customs.
