The Missus and I have just booked first class tickets to Miami with BA. They've got a sale on just now and the reduced price was less than the usual business class price.
I've never flown BA first class before and I'm a little worried now.
Don't be. Miami is on the new A380 as well so very niceI've never flown BA first class before and I'm a little worried now.

I don't think you have to be worried. The First product is pretty much as the regular travellers have described on here. I think the A380 First seats are great; there can be a lack of continuity with crews, but you can go online and find similar tales regarding all airlines and businesses for that matterI've never flown BA first class before and I'm a little worried now.
Some flights were cancelled due to the ATC strikes, but it's not as simple as selecting a single destination. It's not unusual for the crews to fly another two sectors along with the Malaga in the OPs case. The decision to cancel certain sectors will often come down to logistics; Operations will cancel the sectors which'll have the least knock-on affect for other passengers and the whole operation. It could have been that the crew operating the OPs flight were exposed to French ATC earlier in the day. The call centre staff won't have all of the information because the exact reasons for each individual cancellation doesn't always filter down to the front line staff. An improved system of information dissemination may improve this and also help to promote continuity for the customer service staff on the telephones.
Sadly, sometimes it's just your turn. There is no conspiracy and there are strictly monitored and enforced penalties if an airline cancels based on load factor alone i.e. it just doesn't happen.
I'm taking the family to Vegas (back from SF) with BA (economy) in a couple of weeks time and note that it's an aging 747 on this route. It seems to be consistently delayed, day after day. I haven't flown BA for a long time and going by the comments in this thread, I hope we're not going to be too disappointed . . .

It'll be the same as most other airlines flying LV from the UK.I'd imagine that some of the delay will be caused by the 'challenging' boarding process in London. I'd also be mentally preparing yourself for your fellow passengers if I were you. The party starts at least 2 hours before boarding on that route and continues until the flight home. But, if it wasn't for that passengers on that route, the flight wouldn't be operating so there has to be a degree of tolerance from all parties.

There is also no way I will pay to book seats, so I'll be checking in on-line exactly 24 hours beforehand !I'd imagine that some of the delay will be caused by the 'challenging' boarding process in London. If you install the phone app it pops up a notification as soon as checking opens and (assuming you're not hand luggage only) you can select your seat at checkin.Dunno if its as bad on long haul but BAs policy of 2 items of hand luggage (supposedly one in the overhead and one under the seat in front) leads to a lot of people flying hand luggage only on shorthaul with as much stuff as they can carry, and there ending up not being enough space in the overhead lockers and some people's hand luggage ending up in the hold. It pays to either not be last getting on or making sure you've got anything you want during the flight out of your bag just in case.

It's the start of a three week road trip, so we'll have hold baggage, but our hand luggage will be minimal, so should be Ok. We won't be rushing for the plane either as we have a three hour layover from our Newcastle flight.chopper602 said:

I've flown Gatwick to Vegas twice once with virgin and once BA. Both flights were like stag do's, both ran out of booze before we hit Greenland and both the crew stuck the seatbelt sign on pretty much the whole flight in a futile attempt to try and keep people sat down so the cabin crew could do their jobs. I'm not going to lie both were pretty terrible. On the plus side the Virgin flight was boarded by Vegas PD to remove 4 unruly passengers from Upper and the BA wasn't, one up for BA.I'm going to Vegas again in September, I've decided to fly into LA and spend a couple of days in SFO first.
On a positive the flight back from Vegas is pretty quiet everyone has done their best to relive the Hangover and is therefore a dribbling mess.

We did the flight 6 weeks ago. On delays Flightradar etc. seem to have got confused with our time change to BST. The delays are not always as bad as you think.....
In terms of the flight - be prepared. We've done it twice, and it's a bit of an endurance race. On the most recent flight they were a little more hard on those drinking their own liquor. We also found that they were careful with the alcohol. No more did not necessarily mean no more for everyone...
It's a very social flight - far more so than any other flight I've ever been on. BA kept stuffing us full of food on the way. On the way back less so, so don't do what my wife did and say no to the first helping - you won't see more until shortly before landing....
Entertainment is pretty st. Tiny 4:3 screens. Took them a couple of goes to get them working...
Enjoy Vegas
