I much preferred Saigon, but that may have been partly due to it being really cold and foggy in Hanoi in December.

I'd sack off Nha Trang, Mui Ne was pretty much just a Russian resort too. Neither would be high on my list.
When did you go? I went to Mui Ne in 2010 and I'd agree, but having visited last Oct the Russians had pretty much left.

That being said, it wouldn't be my first choice to stay more than a couple of days anyway.

I was there in December 2012. It wasn't so much the Russians I noticed, but all the signs and menus being in Vietnamese and Russian. Although it wasn't a bad place, I didn't think there was much going for it either. The dunes are worth going to if you're there, but not to make a special journey to Mui Ne for, IMO.

I was in Mui Ne in May this year and there were still plenty of Eastern Bloc persons there.

Has anyone done an easy rider tour? As im tempted to take one from Da Lat to SGN at the end, 3 days/2 nights.

Ive sacked off a DMZ group tour as heard theres not alot to see so will sort something private out to 'Hamburger Hill' instead.

But ive done 6 different itineraries depending on the weather laugh

Yep, have a look at my blog www.loquitohermoso.com and scroll back to Oct 2015. I can put you in touch with my guy if you like, he is just starting up on his own but was a good egg.

What will Ha Long and Ha Long bay be like in December? Would a cruise be worthwhile during that month?

I did Ha Long and Hanoi in late December. They were very cold. Apparently 10 degrees but felt colder as it was still really humid and nowhere has heating so there's not much escaping it.

Ha Long Bay was very foggy and you couldn't really see much. Not the best.

It's pretty grim being here at the moment to be honest; about 35c, 98% humidity and gentle drizzle all day long. Once back at the hotel and showered and changed into shorts, it's not too bad but spending the day in a suit is not overly pleasant at all

Jbudgie TET (like Chinese new year) is January 31st 2017, so many places may be closed or short staffed.
