I know Dubai gets mentioned a lot on here and i pass through regularly albeit at night for no more than 24 hours to fly off to places not so relaxing!
But promised SWMBO a few nights in Dubai when i come back to the UK in Oct. Ill fy her out Emirates Business, meet up, hotel for few nights then fly back to UK together...Economy!
But she wants sun (tick), bit of shopping (Mall-tick) and beach to lie on within the hotel (this bit i want some pointers).
As with Dubai its all about budget so forget the Burj or Atlantis and im a tight-arse!
Want something that comes across a pretty impressive but doesnt take away too much fuel money from my Aston!
Been looking at Royal Meridien, Sheraton Jumeirah and the Hilton at the moment.
Any Dubai experts want to advise? Cheers in advance.

all 3 you've chosen are on JBR. of the 3 i would go for the royal meridien. based on:

location - sheraton and hilton both have cracking views of construction sites at the moment. there is building work going on next to the meridien but it's ground level prep. at present, they haven't even started piling. access to the top end of the walk is generally much easier both in and out.

just looked and the promo photos for the sheraton take the fking piss. there's a huge man made spit in progress with huge cranes, a shopping mall and the worlds largest ferris wheel under construction outside your window.

hotel and grounds - LRM is head and shoulders above the others here. very nice grounds and more extensive than the other 2. feels more of a resort. sheraton feels very dated in comparison. the hilton's a hilton with limited frontage.

food - sheraton falls way behind here. i can't even name one of their restaurants. the hilton has bice which is well rated but LRM has both maya and zengo which are excellent.

TBH there are better options but really depends on your budget.

To be fair LRM was becoming my first choice.
When i stay over i stay in the Meridien by the airport. Pleasent enough and as part of the same group LRM seemed the logical upgrade.
I've got a ghood price for the flights for her but need to book in the next few days so ill make choice soon.

LRM has recently been refurbished and has lovely grounds leading to the beach. It also offers a good selection of restaurants.

You can also look at Westin (Marina) and Sofitel on the Palm.

Both excellent.

I'm off to Dubai in September, 7th visit and the 7th at LRM.

Obviously I've visited other hotels but for me none can match the location and service and the restaurants there are now second to none.

Got a fantastic price too for a Tower suite.

Looking at the Booking.com reviews of LRM they seem positive. They did mention the works going on but that's around Dubai everywhere at the moment when I went through the other day.
Majority of the negatives seem to be from locals staying there which they always seem to be spoilt in what they have and pick up on anything.

The hotel works are all due to finish mid September, the infinity pool re opens on the 22nd.

Try expedia, they had some very good prices but no food included and that wion't be cheap, you can however stroll to the Jumeirah Beach walk for more affordable places.

If you can get into the Tower or club rooms they include breakfast and if you fill up their, believe me you'll be set for the day :-)

its not the hotel works i referred to. they're building this place between LRM and the Ritz Carlton:

http://www.arabianbusiness.com/dubai-developer-bre...

http://dubai.propjunction.com/Projects/Default.asp...

note iconic in this context means 'if you thought JBR architecture couldn't get any worse, think again'.

my apartment overlooks both hotels. as i say they have really only just begun to break ground but will be excavating through the season. if you know dubai you know they will be doing this 24/7. no piling as yet and i haven't noticed any noise [34th floor, traffic noise is evident with the balcony open but that's it].

i reckon i will be moving out though as this will rather fk up my view.

NB - this is what is being built opposite the Sheraton:

http://www.arabianbusiness.com/world-s-largest-fer...

if you want a truly uninterrupted view go with one of 6th gear's options or anywhere on the north side of the palm or jumeirah proper. the 4 seasons is the latest build up that end, very very nice and houses dubai's current no.1 restaurant, coya. you really can't go wrong with the westin though.

I often wondered when that patch would be built on. Absolute prime position really.

Well I have enquired with the LRM as I also should get Government Rates there. Looking at the build work nearby ill ask for the furthest away room hopefully but to be fair I work on an airbase which comes alive at night so anything will be peace compared to that!
But still leaving options open as I have time.

Just come back, had 3 days at Atlantis which was good but had enough of the kids and crowds after 2 days, worth a visit thou.
Had next 4 days at Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina which was good value, pools ok and on beach so could not fault really.

There are far nicer hotels in Dubai at that price point.

Not a fan.

I like Atlantis but also rate the Madinat Al Qasr. We've just done the Burj during Ramadan when the cost was less expensive, it was clearly quieter than the last time we went, we were upgraded to a suite on the 20th floor, worth bearing in mind if your considering a future visit.

Also worth noting that the beach at Jumerah is pretty shallow, meaning the water ther is pretty warm. If you want something relaxing treat the beach as a nice to have and pay more attention to the pool area of any hotel that you are considering.

The Meridien looks pretty good, and from personal experience, no complaints on either the Hilton or Sheraton, although the Sheraton is the far end of the Walk..

The Madinat Jumeirah resort is very nice, both Madinat Al Qasr and Mina A'Salam are top hotels.

The Burj al Arab is externally stunning, internally it's a tasteless mish-mash of extravagance. Full of Russians, Chinese, Saudis and premiership footballers.

The One & Only Royal Mirage is still the one to beat IMO. Their property on the Palm is also lovely.

There were certainly plenty of Chinese there, a couple of not so friendly, look at me Premiership footballers and one very friendly former World class player Mr Roberto Carlos, a Gentleman I must say.
It is a bit of a miss mash in the old decor and colour schemes department, we've been twice now and won't be going again unless the Mrs pays. Not done the One and Only.

We went to the Royal Mirage and stayed at the Arabian Court. Could not fault it. The main issue with Dubai, if you are looking at winter months is timing, ie avoiding Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and Russian school holidays. I would say the only fly in the ointment was the presence of the latter. Don't normally like to stereotype people but always on the phone, bleach blonde wives with boob jobs and a nanny to look after the kids.
