Airline just pleases itself
Discussion
Back in February we (6 people) booked and paid in full for flights from Birmingham to Goa with Qatar.
The flight has a connection in Doha.
Yesterday, we discover our return sector from Doha to Birmingham has been cancelled which means we will have to come home either two days early or one day later.
The one day later is a non starter due to finding accommodation and two of our party have to work.
What are our options do you think? I recall there being some mandatory EU compo for cancelled flights?
I don't think there are any alternative flights from BHX without hours of stopover and none of us really want to travel to Gatwick or Heathrow.
Don't airlines pi55 you off.

Isn't this covered by your travel insurance? The flight has a connection in Doha.

Perhaps I should have added that we don't travel until November
OK, but that doesn't affect whether or not it's covered by your travel insurance, does it?My initial question was asking about clarification on EU rules on airlines cancelling flights.
Due to fly in November, you say? If it's more than two weeks away, no compensation is due.

November.
What a bummer.
Why don't airlines publish their schedule and stick to it!
There is statutory compensation, on al flight starting or finishing in the EU, last year i flew Malaysia Heathrow with BA, 12 hour delay internet search found std letters to downlaod fill in flight details and sign, posted the letter follow up emial and nearly 700 pound compensation each, very easy.

If you read the link in the previous post, EU261 doesn't apply in respect of non-EU airlines arriving in the EU. QR is not an EU carrier.... and applies if you are:
departing from any airport situated in the EU, or
arriving in the EU with an EU carrier or one from Iceland, Norway or Switzerland.

I feel your pain buddy but at least they told you. A few years ago we rocked up at Heathrow for our flgiht only to be told that Saturday flights on our route were cancelled and that they only flew Monday to Friday now but no-one told us (I balme Virgin as we booked the hoiday through them). To be fair to the airline (South African Airways) they got us on another plane within an hour to J-burg and connected us to Cape Town so we arrived only 4 hours after our scheduled arrival.
