emirates all the way - wasnt impressed with Ethiad at all

If it's an A380 on one or both legs, go for it. Even in economy it's comfy with great inflight entertainment.

Interesting as mum and dad are flying Emirates from Dubai to Beijing later this year.

I use them regularly (living in AD), and I find them fine. Depending where you're heading to/from then you may get the A380 the full route as they use it between London/Abu Dhabi/Melbourne.

AD airport is much smaller than Dubai/Emirates which I really like, if you know what you're doing there's little waiting in queues and I've never lost a bag there.

I interchange Emirates / Ethiad all the time for Thailand etc.

It's a good point about the airports, though. Abu Dhabi is extremely poor and we have just booked Emirates for next Thailand due to this.
