I'm a bit ninja about travel security but didn't know about the hotel safes being so easy to get into- To be fair though I rarely stay anywhere posh enough to have one hehe

Around South America I tend to travel with a lot of cash, but distribute it VERY widely so potential losses are mitigated.

Short update.
I returned to Bangalore today,
I checked into a different hotel but then went round to last weeks to speak with the Manager.
When I realised that I was coming back, I decided a face to face meeting would be better.
The Manager called in his Security and Services Managers so that they heard the problem directly from me.
They were apologetic regarding the discarding of the receipts and agreed that the employee would be given clear instructions in future.
For the missing money, the Security Manager will review the cctv footage.
They expect to come back to me later this week.

Glad I waited, better face to face.

I somehow foolishly left £500 in a hotel when I checked out in France a few years ago, when I went back 5 days later they had collected or and was in the hotel safe, couldn't believe it.

That does not make sense.

Posting from a mobile, but in essence I left 500 quiz in a hotel room, I passed by 5 days later and they had placed it in the safe expecting me to come back.

One of these but replace the padlock with something better and loop the cable around something like a pipe.

No method is 'nick proof'. Thanks for your input.
