Prizes for guessing what we actually get!
Fiat 500L.

We've just had a car from Sixt. Very good service, but I did smile when I was collecting it. It had been booked and paid for a long time ago, usual Golf/Focus/Astra size. The girl said "how many of you are there?". "Three" I replied, but then quickly added "But we have a lot of luggage" in case she was trying to convince me a Yaris was the latest Golf competitor!
My least favourite two words on the planet "or similar". hehe

If they offer me any sort of Fiat 500 there will be a scene!

We always use Hertz, Avis or Sixt and have never had a problem even when our flight has been delayed. Perhaps the moral of the story is that you get what you pay for.
This, Europcar, national are good too.

If you want a guaranteed no hassle experience then it's Sixt.

We ended up with a 7 seater Fiat 500L in Italy last year for a "Golf or similar". What a munter. I was quite confused when we rocked up with 4 people plus luggage to be given a Fiat 500 key but all became clear. And offensively ugly.

Another time out of Venice, we ended up with a Dacia Sandero with the wheeziest diesel ever in place of a "Golf or similar". That was the most awful car I've ever driven and to top it off we were driving it to Nice along some beautiful roads.

We got a Lancia Thesis out of Milan (very wafty) and (many moons ago) a red Alfa 156 out of Venice down to Modena which was cool.

We're back in Italy next month, hiring a "Fiat Panda or similar" out of Lucca. Any guesses what we'll get?
