Morning All.....

Wife is pregnant and due in November.

Looking for a nice hotel with a pool set in a nice location where we can go for a night or two just to relax for a night or two before the arrival.

Thinking afternoon tea, walk in the grounds, soak in the pool. Not much else really.

Budget - Up to £200 per night.

Two that keep coming up are

Fawsley Hall

https://www.handpickedhotels.co.uk/fawsleyhall/sle...

or New Hall

https://www.handpickedhotels.co.uk/newhall/sleep/a...

Anyone stayed at either of the recently? (as they seem to have had much work done since a lot of the reviews 4 or 5 years ago)

Or a suggestion for another hotel ideally in the midlands - less than two hours from Derby.

Cheers

Falsely hall is good, grounds are a big lake!

Ardencote Manor was pretty good when i stayed there, only just outside warwick so a venture in for a wander round is worth it

Hello, I've stayed in both within the past two years.

We looked at New Hall as a possible wedding venue, and have since stayed a few nights. Nice grounds, a bit of history (Henry Viii stayed/visited there, I think) and apparently its where some football teams stay when playing in the Midlands (Arsenal was mentioned). I cannot verify this amazing information though smile

We had afternoon tea. May have got lucky but it was one of the nicest I've had food -wise. The room we ate in was fine but nothing special. The hotel room was equally fine. The spa wasn't particularly nice but iirc they were planning to do it up.

Fawsley Hall has decent grounds. The pool was nice if not a tad small. We had afternoon tea in the main hall, which was very nice. Room was nice too.

Id go back to either.

As for other suggestions, I really like Rushton Hall which is near Kettering (just off the A14). The grounds are on the small side but lovely. The spa facilities are very nice (or were when I last went three years ago). Afternoon tea was very nice too, as is the main hall. The dinner there wasn't my cup of tea and ended up with room service, which was fine.

HTH.

Fawsley Hall. I have stayed there but it was a while back.

Lovely building. Great service. Unacceptable "deal" on the occasion I stayed there. I bought two nights' DB&B off them with the expectation that dinner was included in the rate. It was...partially....and I'm not talking about the expected cost of alcohol either. When I got the bill it was North of where I thought it should be by over £150.

I paid it, of course, on close inspection of the Ts&Cs I could see it was right...but I am unlikely ever to return. Shame, because the grounds, building, service and so on were really good.

Fawsley was nice.

Lovely building & location. Infact the building is stunning.

Spa pleasant but getting a little bit tired.

Room was nice, large, plenty of character, scary old picture on the wall.

Restaurant on the set menu was again good but nothing stunning.

Overall, enjoyable, nothing wrong with it at all, not sure it was worth what we paid.
