The Sensatori was absolutely spot on. we've stayed in Hiltons, Riu's and several other big chain AI's and the sensatori was in a different league.
we went 2 years ago, during its opening season (October). its slap bang in the middle of 7 mile beach, Negril. 4 hotels up from hedonism ii (worth a walk past for some Yank viewing). its now 2 years old after being completely refurbished by the company acting as Sensatori. the staff were fantastic, food, probably the best of any AI ive been to and we would dearly love to go back for 2 weeks rather than 1.
the only issue is that the cost has rocketed. its pretty much double now what we paid when we went. i'd go back tomorrow though.

If you are taking children there are plenty of options that I have no views on as I haven't visited them. If just the two of you then try Couples resorts. There are four of them. Two in Ocho Rios and two in Negril on seven mile beach (lovely!). All inclusive, good food and plenty of it (mostly yanks visiting!), all water sports included, etc etc etc. If you go to Ocho Rios then the Dunns river trip is all part of the price you pay.

We've been five times but are now off to try other places again. There is an on line community via the Couples webbie so just go there and ask any questions you like. Or ask me!

A little late to this party, but would echo all the good and bad comments about Jamaica.
Personally, I absolutely loved it and would go back again tomorrow. Its stunning and beautiful and exciting and cheap and the people are friendly and generally very helpful. Its also a little dodgy and there are places where you'll hear gunshots at night and places you dont want to leave any valuables.
But on balance, go visit it, go outside your hotel, go and explore the island and everything it has to offer. The culture is great, the music is, erm, interesting. A real Jamaican festival involves reggae music and 90's cheese music! Go to the nightclubs and you'll hear the best reggae, dancehall, soca and rhythm music anywhere in the world. Visit Rick's Cafe and pay more for a drink than you would pay for a round elsewhere. Use the route busses and the route taxis, they're a cheap way of getting around the island and used almost exclusively by locals.
