I have booked to go to Rovaniemi in December for 7 days with wife and 2 kids (6 & 4). Could anyone recommend the "must do" things there?

Looking on trip advisor it sugest the top 3 things to do are:

Arktikum museum
Santa Claus Office
Santa Claus Village

I would love to go on a reindeer ride with the kids too so does anyone have any recomendations for this?

There's a ski slope in Rovaniemi, it's quite small, but tends to be quiet midweek, so is an ideal place to learn. It you're already a skier, you'll find it too tame.

The Artikum has some interesting exhibits, but we're quite spoilt with the museums here in the UK, so you might be slightly underwhelmed. It will pass an hour or two. My friend works there!

Go for a Finnish night out at Doris club? (Not very child friendly).

Ski-mobile rides can be good (wrap up warm), they don't go fast with tourists on board, so it's ok for kids.

Ice fishing is good if you can find someone to take you.

Watch an ice hockey match "roki hockey" if they're playing one evening

They make a golf course on the river when it freezes.

I never got that far south when I did my roadtrip this summer, but the normal things to do up here in winter are watching northern lights (need the weather), skiing and ice fishing. You also have snowmobiling in Finland, plus husky dogs or reindeer sledging for tourists. Cross country skiing is a lot of fun, but you will fall over a lot (even if used to alpine skiing). Ice fishing needs good clothes. Pike, trout and arctic char would be the likely fish you'd get.

On a PH level I think there is some ice driving tracks around there if you wanted to try that? Also a very alternative suggestion, but there is an amethyst museum a hour or so away.

I did my Porsche ice driving course there so suspect there must be opportunities for sliding fun....

Thanks for all the replies.

I really need to do things that are focussed around the kids for this trip as it is going to be all about them really.
