It's not racing but the Nethercutt is a place i'd probably head to first if I was going.

It's not cars but...

California Science Centre has Space Shuttle Endeavour and an SR-71 Blackbird (actually an earlier training variant). Well worth a visit and very cheap.

Holiday or work?

If it's holiday then leave LA and drive along the Pacific Coast Highway! (actually, drive southbound on it for the better views!)

There's lots of nice (and virtually empty) canyon roads to enjoy. http://www.dangerousroads.org/north-america/usa/46... . If you watch Matt Farah's (TheSmokingTire) videos, he's LA-based and most of the roads he uses are easy to get to.

I rented a Mustang GT (the V8 one) from Hertz for $105 for a day when I was there last time and had a lovely time driving around.

http://www.irwindalespeedway.com/ might have some interesting stuff on.

Nice website, I will give a more extensive look. I have been already been in California 3 times and I have always found interesting roads, but most of them almost by accident. Yes, the renting prices of cars like the Mustang V8, Camaro V8 and Challenger are generally low and I also hired a Corvette back in 2012 for a price comparable to a compact premium sedan in Europe.
