Do Virgin flights and lounge have a "free bar"
Discussion
Was explaining my holiday plans with a mate last night, who highly recommended i do not go straight to the car hire place at Vegas airport, and that i should get a taxi to hotel and come back later for the hire car.
He is almost certain that both the Virgin lounge and onboard bar are all inclusive? And knows my lack of self control
I have a standard upper class ticket both ways.
Ive had a google, and a look over the Virgin website and cannot see anywhere where it states "free bar"
I kind of find it hard to believe there is a free bar, as you could consume a lot in a 10 hour flight, plus i thought drinks/snacks was where they made good profit.
If this is true i will need to adjust my car hire pickup times
So i thought PH would know the answer to this one

I'm not sure about straight to the hotel either. That just adds a two additional journeys.
There is a shuttle to the rental car centre from outside the terminal. Operates frequently, and about 10 minutes travel time. Driver loads and if you are patient enough to wait, unloads the cases..
Half of our party went to collect our car, the others got a taxi. We arrived within just a few moments of each other... Although I do skip the lines at the car rental place. Many of the firms allow you to go straight to the car nowadays when you have booked direct.

Perfect, am only used to Easyjet where they charge extra for breathing should make that 10 hour flight go a bit nicer!
Unfortunately i don't get the chauffeur service as was paid for via airmiles
I will also almost certainly be the poorest chap in upperclass!! but when you can get a return upperclass ticket for £400 (and 100K airmiles) why not

If you are flying out of Heathrow the Virgin Lounge is fantastic, if you are getting a taxi or lift to the airport give Virgin a call and gove them the vehicle details so you get to use the VIP entrance! Unfortunately i don't get the chauffeur service as was paid for via airmiles

As others have said, the Virgin Clubhouse Lounge is indeed very good. At least the one at Heathrow is, I've never flown with them from Gatwick.
There is also a small bar on the aircraft with 5 or so bar stools where you can sit and have a drink and chat...assuming the fasten seatbelt sign isn't on.
On an Upper Class ticket, so long as you're not visibly wasted and misbehaving, alcohol will both be free and flow freely. Staggering off the aircraft is a distinct possibility!
McCarren Airport is only a short drive from the strip. Plus you have a long flight. If it was me I would definitely enjoy the lounge and flight, and collect your hire car the next day.

Hadn't thought of the booze element.... Although I generally prefer not to drink on flights anyway (boring my wife tells me...)There is also a small bar on the aircraft with 5 or so bar stools where you can sit and have a drink and chat...assuming the fasten seatbelt sign isn't on.

I've never collected a car in the US straight off a flight. Always next morning. Jet lag kicks in about an hour after landing and I find it difficult to find my arse with both hands let alone get in a car and find the steering wheel is not in front of me and everyone is driving on the wrong side of the road and then falling asleep at a four-way stop sign.
Limo to hotel. Cab to car hire place in the morning.
Upper Class limo is only if you've bought a full-fare ticket. Don't miss out on checking in at the Upper Class Private Wing drive-in check in though. You can still use it even if arriving in a taxi/mini cab - just need to call ahead with vehicle reg.

Bus? (Again) it's an Upper Class ticket, he gets a chauffeur at both ends.
Not as standard, you have to pay extra for this.Virgini upper is only business on any other airline
Z (Discounted / MilesPlusMoney) and G (Reward or Confirmed Upgrade) codes don't get a chauffeur.
Its Gatwick I'm Flying from, Found a trip advisor link, doesn't seem too bad

I assume the food is free as well?
In regards to VIP entrance, i will be getting a taxi from a hotel, so i just ring up on route (as i won't know the Taxi's reg upfront), and tell the taxi "Virgin VIP entrance please" ?
On another point, Im going to be going up to Gatwick a day early hoping too see central London as i have never been. Is there an easy way to get from Gatwick to central London (and back)?

It's free even in Economy, although access is a bit more tricky than in Upper. But if you present yourself at the Galley and there are staff around they'll serve you.I kind of find it hard to believe there is a free bar, as you could consume a lot in a 10 hour flight, plus i thought drinks/snacks was where they made good profit.
We flew from Gatwick at the end of August with Virgin. The lounge is awesome.
I ended up being in there for just over 4 hours.
Breakfast was lovely.
Champagne/Peroni all free.
Snacks/lunch.
Even had my shoes cleaned. (He said he wanted to as they looked dirty haha).
The plane (assuming its the A330 or whatever it's called) is nice. The herringbone seat arrangement sucks for being sociable but still nice. The bar is just behind the upper class seats and again all free!!
For me, the service alone compared to cattle class is worth it. They really were awesome.
