Got flights for Xmas and New Year with them so hopefully they don't go under. Didn't they have to renew their licence a few months back which went to the deadline.

Flightradar24 have just tweeted,

"Qatar Airways are positioning A320's to UK, on request by the Civil Aviation Authority in UK, to be used if Monarch Airlines collapse."
Not looking good.

Yep they’ve gone and 300,000 future bookings cancelled. For the member on holiday and coming home Wednesday he should have a flight to replace them. For those who have holidays booked start seeking alternative arrangements I’d guess.

And if you booked with them this year you’re not ATOL protected: https://monarch.caa.co.uk/customers/i-have-a-futur...

So if you're a Monarch pilot, do you hang around without a job for several weeks while the administrators search for a buyer, or do you jump ship now and go to Ryanair who's vacancy list is rather large at the moment.

They’re unlikely to have the correct type rating as they both fly different aircraft.

Yep I posted in the other thread, Monarch are all Airbus apart from 1 737-800. Ryanair are all Boeing.

How difficult can it be?

Shame they have gone bust, particularly as I was booked on one of their flights this week, fortunately managed to rebook with easyjet this morning.

Hopefully another airline will take over the viable bits and take the staff on.

booked mine early Dec 16 and have the ATOL cert so I'm lucky. Still a pain though as Xmas flights aren't the cheapest and booking late (this is late for Xmas/New Year flights) limits options/makes it more expensive with Ryanair being the main alternative unfortunately. Fry pan meet fire!

A friend just sent me this from Cyprus and he's due to flight back home with the kids tomorrow. I've never been in that situation, what's the protocol?

All listed on the monarch website.

https://monarch.caa.co.uk

There’s a section on “I’m currently abroad”

https://monarch.caa.co.uk/customers/i-am-currently...

It will list the flights that have been re-arranged. They will only get the flight home any delays or additional costs outside of that will have to be covered by your friend unless he booked via an ATOL protected agent or prior to monarch losing their ATOL protection.

A load of Qatar A230's flew over to the UK during the night to be used to fly people back.
