Have managed to secure tickets for all three Lions test matches next summer smile

Now looking for car hire for three weeks, would prefer to use small independent operator, rather than one of the big brands, as have always found the smaller operations far more realistically priced and reliable

Names and/or website links much appreciated

Thanks in advance

We booked ours through Holiday autos, you get a big brand but at better prices and everything is included.
One thing to look out for is to book it with a company that includes the Wellington/Picton ferry price and more importantly lets you take the car on the ferry. That is assuming you are going to the South Island!

We've always used GO Car Rental from tha airport and will do again Feb and March 2017 for 6 weeks. You can get cars that are new or choose an older car that's cheaper, this Feb when we hired we had a brand new Toyota Corolla auto.

I used Ace Rental Cars twice when I was in NZ earlier this year. Almost two weeks in the South Island (Queenstown to Christchurch) and a week in the North Island (from and to Auckland airport).

Seemed like good value and nice staff to deal with. Happy to recommend them. https://www.acerentalcars.co.nz/

For the ferries some allow you to cross, others dont, big companies have places to drop the car off in welly, and pick up another in Picton

Unless you really want to do the ferry though I'd book flights from auckland to chc or qt hire another car there

Pop this up in the NZ part of the forum too, in 2014 I was in NZ and asked if anyone had any rental car contacts and got put in touch with a forum users company who sorted me out with a V6 commodore for a fortnight for a lot cheaper than you would think.

Staying on North Island only, have already been to NZ a couple of time, never really properly explored North Island
