Husband did All the download stuff but after getting lost (3x) gave up and I graciously gave him a paper map. Any questions, ask here!

It's not that big a place, and relatively easy to find your way around once you've got your bearings. Assuming you will arrive at the train station, walk outside and buy an unlimited day pass for the water buses at the kiosk beside the Grand Canal, that will come with a map which is more then enough guidance to get around.

It worked fine for me a couple of months ago (apart from doubling my walking distance accompanying relatives back to their hotel, as they only had a paper map - GPS is a godsend given how easy it is to get lost in Venice upon one wrong turn!)

I found it pretty easy to navigate by foot tbh, if you look up ont he walls, theres all kinds of direction signage.

The Vaparetto stops are dead easy to find, and both they and the Alilaguna service have online maps of stops.

As Turn 7 says, it's a doddle. We bought 24hr waterbus tcikets for €20 each and it's hop on hop off as much as you like. just look at the maps at each stop and it'll tell you what number bus to take you where you want to go. Very easy and straightforward
