Did not realize he sticky had gone

Eating, Paco Meralgo is the best tapas the. Catalana. La polpa, flamant and most on Enric Granados are excellent and not pricey.

To see. Sagrada is a must, casa milla, casa batillo, mont juic and the castle.

Oh and yes be careful on the metro and las ramblas as there are pickpockets. Wallet in front pocket, don't take out all of your wallet etc etc

I'm as un-religious as it comes but the Sagrada Familia and the old Cathedral in the gothic quarter are both very good indeed. Book tickets well in advance though for the Sagrada, or you may miss out as it's often sold out. Parc Guell is good too if you like your Gaudi, but again book in advance.

Las Ramblas is interesting, and there's some amazing market stalls there. It leads down to the harbour which was very pleasant. We stayed slightly out of town in the hills overlooking the city and hired a car to get around (missus was pregnant at the time). Unlike London a car actually works very well in Barcelona and there's loads of underground parking that isn't too silly price wise. Just DO NOT hire from Goldcar.

Olympic Park was rather sad and folorn as I suspect many of the similar places are.

Great city, enjoy!

Just to make sure you understand this, it's pickpocket central. I wish I'd have known this before I went.

I went last week, airport is pretty efficient but outsize luggage comes out in two different places and the law of sod says you will be stood at the wrong belt whilst your bikes arrive at the other end of the terminal. Other than that, I jumped in a car and headed up the coast to Girona as I have been to Barcelona and I am in no hurry to go back due to the issues mentioned above.

Don't wear any jewellery. Don't carry expensive cameras. Carry minimal cash and just one card. Have the phone number handy for the police. Otherwise, enjoy it.....

Some Romanian will probably try to pickpocket you.

I know it's been done to death, but theft against the person there really is out of control. I've been four times on weekend breaks and each time either had it happen to me, seen it happen to someone else, seen an attempt at it, or heard of it happening to another tourist.

The Police seem to not care about it, or completely unable to do anything about it.

Despite that, it's a great place to go, I recommend it, but forewarned is forearmed and all that.

I've been dozens of times and never had an issue.
We had 35 people there most of last week and none were robbed.

I find it no worse than any major city, but like anywhere, you need to be alert at all times.
For those on my last 2 flights it was quite bad in Barcelona on both occasions, but Rome is usually worse.

Spent Easter there and no probs at all with me, Mrs P and 13yo son and with wandering round late at night and back from Camp Nu at gone 11pm.

Head to the Villa Gracia are and have lunch in Placa del Sol. It is very peaceful in a manic city and almost Venice like, oh and Casa Jamie if near Eixample.

Have fun

The Magic Fountains are worth a look if they are running on the dates you visit.
The trip to the top of the Columbus statue is worth a look, not obvious you can take a lift to the top, the views are worth it and the slight swaying of the column an 'experience' eek
Hop on Hop off Bus tour is quite good for hitting all the big attractions in a limited space of time.

Perhaps you've just been lucky?

petty crime has become not only Barcelona’s primary nuisance but a threat to its tourism industry. The police say the scourge took the city by surprise after it became a hot tourist attraction following the 1992 Olympics here. In 2009, thievery had become such a problem that TripAdvisor dubbed Barcelona the world’s biggest haven for pickpockets. Over the next three years, the number of minor thefts in Spain jumped by 18.5 percent, according to the Spanish daily El Pais.

Don't be concerned it is no different to any big city, it's a great place

We had four days in Napoli a couple of years ago and prior to going I was led to believe it was hell on Earth. It was one of the most amazing places I have ever been.

You will have great fun

We were warned about pick pockets before we went, I kept wallet and phone in front pockets and the girls kept their bags zipped. I had a great time there! We stayed in a cheap hotel near Las Rambles with lots of bars around us. Although we were there just to get drunk we did the tourist bit first.

Marina end of Las Rambles is a roundabout and on the roundabout is a tourist office. You can buy a hop on and off bus ticket there. We then rode the bus all day and saw all the sights. Gaudis gardens are worth a visit along with the Sagrada Familia, the cable car to the marina was cool. Its one of my favorite citys.
