The easiest city to drive around from my experience.
Wide roads, navigation by heart easy, free parking in the big hotels (self park).
I'm really surprised by people walking miles and using public transport there, poor European souls.

If you go to Death Valley, don't baulk at the price of petrol at the petrol station and then think you'll fill up at the next one, because there's only about 2 of them.

Driving for 40 miles showing zero range in a 6.2L car at night time in a desert is not an experience I'd recommend!
Will still be cheaper than over here, to be fair

When we were there, traffic on the strip was really heavy.

It took us about an hour to make our way along it (and then I turned off and used a parallel road about 2/3rds of the way up/down/along...).

Out in the country the roads are generally pretty quiet, although there were big crowds at the Hoover Dam (a long queue to get in the car park), but it was a public holiday weekend, so that's probably unusually bad.

Driving on the wrong side is a doddle, you'll pick it up in no time if you've got half a brain and familiarise yourself with their rules etc..

Don't drift a muscle car across an intersection when you have an unmarked police car behind you in the queue nono

Traffic on the Strip can be either stationary for hours or non-existent. Friday and Saturday evenings it's rammed.
When the traffic is moving it moves pretty quick and doesn't take prisoners. I found the locals were a bit random but very assertive with their driving.
One thing that always gets overlooked is fuel and how to get it. Make sure you've got a US-compatible credit/debit card or plenty of cash. Every petrol station I used (from Vegas, around the Canyon, up to Yosemite, across to SF and then down to LA) was prepay only.
As mentioned earlier, there are far better ways to do Vegas and the surrounding areas than in a blue Mustang or an orange Charger.....

Same as above, we hired a mustang convertible and drove around vegas and out to lakes and hoover, it’s easy and no harder than any other American city.

We also hired a Lamborghini Huracan for a day and drove that around vegas, that was slightly more nerve jarring.

(I know neither car is pictured in vegas itsself but hard to pull over, park and take a pic in a busy city)
For the st parking thread?

Thanks for the responses everyone. Fancying the mustang convertible, any recommendations company wise?

Thanks
We were in Vegas this year and wanted and SUV for 2 weeks. Found it was $700 cheaper to hire in Henderson (10 miles away) that the same company in Vegas. Taxi was $40 each way to save $700 (we went with Hertz)

No problem driving there at all.

Just remember you can turn right on red there, and that the central lane between both directions is a turning lane for either directions flow of traffic to use. Before you're turning you'd pull into it and wait until clear. Likewise when pulling out you would turn into the central lane before slowly joining your direction of traffic.

If you have your own car rental insurance (amex platinum, worldwide plus cover with insurance4carhire etc) I rent from www.silvercar.com now. They only rent new silver Audi A4s. Not going to get that 'americana' feel, but its usually cheaper, and lets be honest, its a much better car. Plus they drop you at the terminal when you're done.

The strip gets Very busy, but mostly 4+ lanes. Not a lot of parking around the strip other than the hotel car parks.
Tropicana was free for hotel guests.

Also the car rental is not in the actual airport, you need to get a shuttle bus to the rentals.

However you get to choose the actual car, you pay for the class of car, then choose the actual car in the car park (they all have the keys in them), they then check paperwork at the exit.

Why would you be sober enough in Vegas to drive a car?

Seriously though just use uber it's pretty much free. We walk as much as possible when we go because Vegas has an enormous number of weirdos to interact with and a very high density of bars. I have driven down the strip and in all honesty I was so focused on not hitting or being hit by any of the dick heads in hertz adrenaline corvettes that it was rather underwhelming, much better to walk the length with an Eiffel Tower of gin and tonic and chat to the other drunks.

I really enjoyed the drive out to the dam from the airport though. We went down to Chloride which was interesting... also tried to off-road in the mustang which was unwise. I quite enjoyed the road from Las Vegas lakes back to the 93, lakeshore road I think it was, you have to pay to use it but it seemed to be unpoliced and completely empty.

I remember the Coffee Cup Cafe in Boulder... Breakfast was just magic, and such a chilled place.

$1300 for 24 hours in a 488 spider seems a cracking deal with unlimited miles!

We have been a number of times in the past, but without bothering with a car, just fancy a day of the Hoover dam / lake Las Vegas.
