On another point, i noticed on my flight's with Virgin, there is a Airbag attached to the seatbelt.
Does this actually really do much? Is it to stop you smashing your head on the console in front?
Have always thought seatbelts as a bit pointless on a plane...
Flew back from Miami on Thursday with American Airlines and noticed the airbag as well, bloody heavy thing that required careful positioning to allow comfortable sleep. I'd imagine it would be a spectacular gut punch if it went off!Does this actually really do much? Is it to stop you smashing your head on the console in front?

I sit in the front for a living and we always wear our seatbelts even on the long flights. It amazes me how many people actually walk around when the seat belt sign is on whilst being a passenger. I'm also very surprised how many people actually get out of there seat whilst taxiing on the ground - those brakes do work and sometimes baggage trucks do not stop for us which means a quick jam of the brakes to avoid collision.
Back to OP post, I would have mentioned it to the cabin crew and they would have blocked the seat having spoken to the engineer it was severe enough.

Surprises me how most people wear seat belts in cars but don't listen to safety briefings and ignore the belt sign Back to OP post, I would have mentioned it to the cabin crew and they would have blocked the seat having spoken to the engineer it was severe enough.

I should hope you do!The last thing i want to hear on a flight is the cabin crew asking if anyone knows how to fly a plane as that bit of turbulence we just went through has knocked all the pilots out!
Come on now 'fess up,do you both ever eat the same meal?

What's even more important I suppose is the crews reaction to safety issues.
Yes a faulty belt is not going to cause the plane to fall out of the sky - it is however weakening perceived passenger safety in a very visible way.

Thanks for you input.Back to OP post, I would have mentioned it to the cabin crew and they would have blocked the seat having spoken to the engineer it was severe enough.
I did mention it to a member of the crew. I'm not trusting enough to think that he would remember, so I decided to contact the airline to ease my mind that it would be investigated.
They've acknowledged my comment but have yet to tell me of the outcome.
