I seem to remember that someone on this forum has changed the fuse box to a modular one supplied by a few vendors. Does anyone have details of the post as I have tried to find and so far its been in vain. There were a couple of picture of the fuse box in a post again I cannot find.

I plan on doing the mod, I just want to see the modules and relays required. It was the five bay unit that was used.

Cheers

Sounds like a dnb thing. Someone will have it bookmarked no doubt if you can't find it.

I think it's a guy called spend who either rewired it or completely replaced it.
I was having trouble with mine (just a dodgy connection fortunately) and read a few threads on it - it's a hacked about Audi part IIRC.

Found what I was looking for. Very informative and I will fully document and photograph the whole procedure on both chim and griff when I change. (parts ordered).

Nice one. I would be very interested to see what you come up with. Sounds like a good plan seeing as these are getting old now.

Yes, it was me. I replaced everything with stuff from Vehicle Wiring Products. It wasn't as difficult as I thought it might be and it tidies the footwell mess up nicely.

Hi dnb,

It was your pictures I found showing the replacement which made me decide to do it. The wires going into the original fuse box are to long and untidy. Also I think I will be able to reposition the box under the glove panel in the chim.

I'm pleased to see my insanity is still contagious!

As it turns out this was one of the better things I did to my Griff. The old fusebox was becoming unreliable and there was nothing logical about the fuses. The modular board is so much easier to maintain and even add things if required. I believe there is slightly more space behind the dash in the Chimaera than the Griff, so you might be lucky with the fuseboard placement.

One thing I wished I had done after the fact was to connect the alarm and immobiliser fuses in such a way that I had an option to enable them when I isolated the battery from everything else and that I had fitted a dedicated connection for trickle charging (as well as the one I fitted for jump starting).
