The cost increase in recent years has nothing to do with Brexit and everything to do with exchange rates and fuel costs.
?Brexit explains the exchange rate and the fuel costs.

Too right, was looking at options for a trip to western ireland and fancied our steed over some insipid hire car... £400+ for the ferry makes no sense though, when flights are £60 and a weeks car hire about £100.
Must have been cheap years ago as we went as a family and we was cheap.
Cheap flights are what killed the ferry business. Ferries haven't really gone up much, it's just that the alternatives came down a lot.Must have been cheap years ago as we went as a family and we was cheap.
