Go to Gaia, on the other side of the river and visit some wine cellars and do some Port tastings
Eat a "Francesinha", if not vegetarian.
Visit the Ribeira area, the Aliados and Nicolau Nasoni's Clerigo's Tower.
If you had more time... I would tell you to book a train trip from Porto to Regua meet me and I could show round the Douro Valley :-)

I'm looking forward to trying a Francesinha. What wines would you recommend drinking while out there that can be bought readily in shops, I'm thinking normal wine rather than Port. Eat a "Francesinha", if not vegetarian.

We will be staying right near the Ribeira area so looks like a good area to see the main sites.
Thanks for the offer. What will the weather be like at the end of March?
Not long returned from a long weekend in Porto and absolutely loved it - it has a strange "feel" at first, it looks a little run down with loads of dilapidated buildings and graffiti everywhere but when you get past that it's great.
You can buy a ticket that gives you bus tour(s), a trip up the river to see the bridges, a cable car trip and a tour of one of the Port Wine Cellars - I'll check with other half where she got them from and post details later.
If looking for NICE evening out - try the Ode Porto Wine House - https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g1...
They do not have a website that I can find - only a Facebook page which I cannot access from here.
Two tasting menus available but the dearer one basically consists of TWO choices from starter/main and dessert - and we found that one of each was plenty. Do the luxury wine flight - we had one Red that was almost worth the cost of the meal on it's own and you cannot buy it anywhere else, apparently.
Mostly food and drink recommendations from us I'm afraid!!
Bar on the bridge, just before you cross - great cafes just about everywhere. Saturday night in the square.
Good place and I would go back.
Probably not much Port left though - I think we drank most of it!

Great place to spend a few days..We stayed in an Airbnb on the town side of the river for €40 p/n. Taxi pre-booked from the airport was €25, our Airbnb host booked it.
Make sure you do a tour of the Porto houses (there'll be free tickets for tasting being given out near the river - There's no scam either). The locals are very friendly and a refreshing change from other European cities.
Go to the beach with the chapel (Capela do Senhor da Pedra), the return train ticket was €2.50.
Do not eat a Franchesina (you'll be very disappointed)...Go to the open market and eat fresh fish for a very fair price.
For fine dining, I can recommend Cantina 32 on R. das Flores or Grupo Celeste on the main square.
Cross the metal bridge, chill with the locals next to the river; Climb the tower and take in the views.

So I'm off next week, I have one issue...I haven't got a clue what clothes to take. I'm obviously packing light only taking hand luggage but the weather seems all over the place. It's been quite warm topping 25c from the weather apps I've been using but then dropping to as low as 6c some nights. It also seems to have been quite dry do I need to take a wet coat?
