Nice little pub not far from the centre, can't remember what the food was like but the place itself is nice.

Without knowing what you want...

Food:
Old Parsonage - Fancy
Gees - Fancy
Malmaison - Not as fancy
Quod - Not as fancy, but cocktails
Rickety press - Good burger or pizza - 15 min walk
Beerd - Hipster pub (best pizza in Oxford, but think they aren't serving currently)

Drinks:
The House - Cocktails
Quod - cocktails
The varsity club - Cocktails (roof top bar - good views even at night)
Turf tavern - traditional pub
The Bear inn - traditional pub
Beerd - Hipster pub (best pizza in Oxford, but think they aren't serving currently)
The White Rabbit (claims to be the best pizza, isn't, see above)

Coffee:

Missing Bean
Society Cafe
The Handlebar (also does very good food)

Todo:
Walk around PortMeadow and go to the Perch for lunch
Blast out to the Cotswolds (can do a route if you like), go to The Falkland Arms, visit Woodstock & Chipping Norton (Hook Norton Brewery, if you like that kind of thing). Even Bourton on the water is nice.
Take in the sights, Oxford Camera, uni's etc.
Sunday 10-2pm - Market in Summertown, grab a pulled pork bun and wonder around Summertown
Blenheim Palace and brunch in Hampers (Nie little Deli too)
Covered Market

Had you said, I'd not have bothered with my list and suggest room service!

Not sure why you'd get flamed... oh, it's PH, right wink

I lived there for 10 years. Baroque concerts a real treat.

As mentioned, pubs/Inns to the north and west, much better than in town.

The Pitt Rivers museum is definitely worth a look if you have an hr or 2 to kill. Some fascinating exhibits.

Oxford Castle is good. Downton Abbey is within striking distance to the south.

Not sure I can understand the love for the Falkland Arms - been there plenty of times, I live 4 miles from it. Always packed, average food, poor service relying on the fact that Great Tew is reasonably quaint. Moreso now because of the Soho Farmhouse effect and the wannabes.

The Bell at Hampton Poyle does better food and is ten minutes from the City Centre rather than 30. Apparently the White Hart at Wytham, an equal distance from the centre is much improved under new management and might be in line for prizes. The Black Boy in Headington is decent also.

If you are only there overnight and staying centrally, you might not want to be jumping in the car? Natural History Museum and Pitt Rivers are worth a look as is the Ashmolean as suggested (all free). The Botantic Gardens are lovely and right by the river, you can also get a punt from Magdalen Bridge nearby if you are feeling romantic.

If you are out in the evening, the Varsity Club (on the High Street, entrance next to Whistles) has a rooftop bar and has great views over the City rooftops - can get busy though.

I wouldn't recommend the Summertown Farmers Mkt - it's not great and Summertown, whilst expensive has nothing but a strip of average supermarkets, charity shops and eyewateringly expensive cafe (Gails) to go with the 'sought after' private schools.

Pitt Rivers museum. Inspector Morse walking tour. Even if you've not watched any of the films it's a great way to see the city.

I also live about 4 miles away and visit every couple of years. I would think as a tourist it's OK, I even had a half reasonable burger there last time I went. That was pre soho though.

I remember in my teens the main attraction was you could buy weird and wonderful tobacco in clay pipes. smile
