I'm trying to get a reasonable insurance quote for my car from a French insurer so that I can finally register it at the prefecture. Everything else is in place. I found a Generali agent who was very accommodating and asked me questions in English, said they'd give me three months to finish the registration etc. However the quote was €1000, which is too much for me. In the U.K. I pay about £300. I'm 32 and the car is a 2008 V70.

The specific vehicle doesn't appear when I use French comparison tools, so does anyone know of any other insurers who will be able to assist me in English? My French isn't good enough to deal with this stuff over the phone.

Thanks.

That's a rip off. Maybe your best bet is to go into your local town and visit the various agents.
We have insured many uk vehicles for up to 2 years, but I expect the 3 month limit may be being inforced a bit more now

We use internet based company. amaguiz.com Which is part of the groupama group.

I ran my imported Jaguar XF on UK plates for a few months on UK plates and it was insured through Credit Agricole with no problems.

I insured by Alfa Spider S4 with Allianz on a limited mileage policy (< 4000 km/year) through an English speaking insurance agent (http://www.france-insurance.co.uk) got quite a good price.
