Unexpected Item In Bagging Area said:
I'm a big fan of Milan, it's great to wander round and isn't overly touristy away from the Duomo area. You can take the train out to Como for the day which is just beautiful.

Siena is incredible too albeit not all that big
This.
Moto Guzzi factory is in Como as well if thats of ay interest. Also, Ducati are in Bologna for a visit.

Yes. We were booked into the Hotel Eden inside the walls of Sirmione and the hotel had a secure parking place for us. With a letter from the hotel confirming the parking space inside, the police outside dropped the electronic bollards and allowed us inside. As you know, the streets are virtually car free and are very narrow and crowded.

We were a bit unsure about the possible reactions of angry tourists but the sight and sound of the Tuscan really won them over. People were crowding around the car taking photographs and many shouts of "bravo" and "bellissimo". Parents stopped us and asked for photos of their children with and in the car. It took us nearly 30 minutes to go the 300 metres to the hotel.

Very disconcerting at first but it just shows how Italians love their sports cars, particularly rare and beautiful ones like a TVR. One guy gently rubbed his hand over the rear over the car and if my Italian is correct, muttered something about being as beautiful as Kylie's rear end!!!! Praise indeed.

Sorry to the OP for high jacking the thread but you should really consider the Lakes of Italy and in particular, Sirmione on Garda.

I'd certainly echo the recommendations for Garda.

Venice, of course, is eminently 'doable' in a long weekend, likewise Pisa or Florence - You won't see everything they have to offer, but you'll get a taste.

We're going to Naples in June - Keen to see Herculaneum and dive on the ruins of the old harbour - I think Naples has ALWAYS had a reputation of being 'rough', you just need to exercise some caution and sense, like a trip to Rio or Marseilles.

Rome is amazing, but we had a great long weekend in Bologna a few years ago. Not far from there to Modena and Maranello too.

Oh yes, definitely Rome too - We did this a couple of years back. Great few days.

We stopped overnight in Bologna in 2015, after stopping off at Sant'Agata, between Milan and Venice.

At the time we had no real expectations of the place, but stopped off there again last summer after finding we really liked the place. It might not be the most beautiful place to look at, but it just seems to have it's own character, lots of good places to eat, and quite a bit to see in a 2-3 day break.

Italian trains are supposedly pretty good, and it's in fairly easy reach of the likes of Venice and Florence as well.

Timely. Bought some tickets for a gig in Milan, so figured we'd stay there for a couple of nights. Have a guide book but it's all about the bloody churches.

I tuned in just as he was stuffing pasta into his mouth in Bologna and then got into

a Quattroporte and went to Modena.....smile

There was another recent food prog from Bologna with Rick Stein ,seems to be an underrated destination.
