How the hell do you securely display them on a bike without some thieving git nicking it or the wind blowing it off ( Matlock bath riders will know what I'm asking!)

Don't display it.
Just contest the fine if you're given one. You've a ticket so it'll be dropped.

Sounds like a pain every time you park!

put ticket on bike and take photo of it with phone clearly showing date and time. If its nicked or blows off, contest it.

Won't work in most places where the rule states you must DISPLAY a ticket, not just buy one. The contravention is in the not displaying.

You need to remember that the aim of civil parking enforcement is not actually enforcement of the law...it is revenue generation and target hitting.

I have more of a issue when in my kit car. I have a screen but thats it no roof. I have taken a pick of the ticket on my screen and used tape to secure it

There's one in Hastings where it's like a quid to park all day, most people stick in under their seat strap or in the screen, and when people don't realise it's pay and display for bikes they 'donate' their tickets to anyone without one.

Are bikers still going in the same numbers to Matlock now that you have to pay to park?

Not been for a couple of years and probably won't bother again, if they don't get you for speeding, exhausts, no. plates, visors etc on the way in then they'll have you for parking.

If enough bikers boycott the place, maybe the council will see sense and drop the charges? (I'm not holding my breath).

Its quite simple not to get pulled near any 'meeting places', don't speed, don't have an 'I am an antisocial wker' exhaust, run a legal plate and I have never heard of a single person being done for a dark visor, its not rocket science smile

A few of us meet up on a Sunday morning in Banbury market square and that is now P&D for bikes even on a Sunday which is a bloody liberty.

No wonder town centres are dying on their arses, Witney where I work is free for both cars and bikes, not a coincidence that the town is thriving.

Most councils don't give a st whether their town centres are thriving, in fact generally the left wing ones prefer them NOT to be thriving as they are anti-capitalist.

Yes, really.

Never underestimate the *utter contempt* councils have for their "citizens".

Running a council would be great if it wasn't for all those annoying people who won't do as they're told.

I only went a few times some years ago. The constant speed limit changes, 30 to 50 to 40 to 30 Ad nauseam plus signs about helicopter monitoring (WTF?) etc. did my head In.
Seeing some nice looking bikes was good but otherwise the place isnt so interesting.
People walking around eating fish and chips before midday on a Sunday stinking the place out. Not my cup of tea, too chavvy.
There is no chance I will return any time soon since parking is charged. I'm sure the cafes etc have noticed a downturn in trade. Shame really. So many better places to park up.
