the ATMs often lie about their state of readiness, the RBTT bank at crown point often catches me with this. usually if you request a smaller sum and just keep repeating you will get what you originally asked for. they limit the size of withdrawals at periods of high demand but until it happens to you there's no way of knowing.

first national ATMs, until recently, refused point blank to discuss matters with any foreign bank so entirely useless for a visitor. i believe this policy has now been reversed but i'm not chancing it !!

agree entirely with your thoughts on the importation of crime. anytime a big project kicks off, labour is brought in from other caricom areas and there's an increase in crime in the surrounding areas.

One of my mates 'retired' around 4 years ago with the aim of 'living the dream' for the rest of his life in the Caribbean. He spent the first 3 years moving around , checking everywhere out first and finally settled on Roatan, Honduras. He says it's the best place he's been in by far and has no intention of moving again. Although he might have different priorities to some tourists (cheapness, unspoilt, relaxed) he recommends it as a tourist destination to anyone who asks.

We may have crossed paths Paul. I know the place you mean with the kayaks and I think I know the house as well. Pass Drunking Jo's - on the right and on the way to (the recently acquired Shepherds Inn, by Richard aka Sheppy - used to be Toucan Inn and Bonkers and then owned by Chris & Jim?

I know what you mean about the THA, although the run up to the elections was a bit different to the way the UK do things laugh

Welcome to the party tricywoo smile

I agree with the lack of tourists and if it wasn't for the Trinies, it'd be very quiet and sadly, probably on it's knees. I'm not a fan of the non direct flights nor the stupid price increases that BA or Virgin charge. I wouldn't be too keen on the Thomas Cook/Condor flight either from Manchester as we live approx an hour from Gatwick. When it was direct I could live with that but the extra time now makes it too painful for me sadly frown We've done it since Monarch left but it makes you wonder why the THA don't wake up tot he fact they, erm, need tourists.

Our friends live nr Bacolet so quite a few times we'd just go and "lime" by the Blue Haven.

IMO the whole Island is lovely cool
