Need to find a place for family to stay for a week in october but really unsure where the hell to go!!!!
Good pool areas at Luxor and Mandalay Bay (lazy river great for kids but they can't play in the waves on the artificial beach under a certain height)

I don't think you can really judge the Cosmopolitan on the basis of a (seemingly) random nutter shooting someone on a bus outside at one of the busiest places on the strip. We stayed there for a few nights and it was fabulous.

Well you've been to LV so you don't need me to tell you the hotel tends to be the main component of the holiday - adult theme parks with bedrooms.

Gambling, dining, live shows, pools, and night life under one roof without ever leaving the place!

With a room in the Emerald Tower of the MGM not much more than the tired old Excalibur, Circus Circus, and Bally's why even contemplate a flea pit?

Santa Monica MUCH nicer. Try the Viceroy on Ocean Avenue.

I've lost track of the times I've been to Vegas and never, at at time, on any trip, has anything tempted me to set foot inside the Stratosphere or anywhere else within a couple of blocks of it. Seedy area of town and not close to anything of note, except perhaps that Pawn shop that gets coverage on one of the Sky channels. Spend the extra money and stay on the Strip.

I stayed there for a pair of nights years a go and it was fine.

Depends what you want you're looking to do but if you're planning on venturing out to the Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon etc I'm not sure basing your self on the strip is ideal with the kids. I spent 2 weeks in the Sunset Station in Henderson, right opposite a huge mall, easy access to the strip when you want it but a bit more chilled out when you didn't.

We stayed at Palace Station Hotel&Casino ( https://hotellook.com/hotels/palace-station-hotel-... ), for less than 40 $ , I enjoyed it much. But I am not an expert and I've been to Vegas 3 times only, 2 of them being a kid.
